Bio

The Brian Porter Band believes that the world needs music that is encouraging, straightforward, and true. The members of Brian Porter Band understand what kind of daily issues students, professionals, and the average Joes of America have to go through. These young men are dealing with most of these issues first hand or have dealt with them in the past and they want to encourage their listeners that there is hope in this sometimes seemingly hopeless world.

The guys of Brian Porter Band come from all parts of the United States and met in Memphis, Tennessee at a small music college called Visible School. Although this doesn’t keep them from coming together to mix sounds of blues, jazz, rock-n-roll, and funk into a sound that is as diverse as the cities they came from. All having prior instruction in music, during their education they became excellent on their instrument as you will hear for yourself. Each member makes every effort to be the best they can be in both the technical and creative side of making music on their instrument.

The music is unique and hard to find words for. The catchy and very guitar driven song, “Love Will Find A Way,” gets you moving but the lyrics get you thinking. Lead vocalist and songwriter, Brian, describes this song as “challenging the listener to look at the open road before you, and that you have nothing to fear wherever you go.” These themes are all wrapped around the chorus that says the message of the song and the Hope behind it. With a softer guitar approach, “World In Red” “speaks to specific people who have went away from their innocence, or who face the many tough aspects of life, and offers a different outlook on their situation.” The Brian Porter Band wants to be distinctive among all the other bands in the music world today. They want to be good influences on their listeners with their songs and with the technicality of their music. I think you will soon find out that they take what they do seriously but they also know how to have fun and play all kinds of great music!

The mix of sound starts with the lead vocalist, guitarist and main songwriter, Brian Porter from Boise, ID. He has been playing guitar for 7 years, and he always had a passion for creating jazz and blues guitar licks, like one of his biggest musical influences, Stevie Ray Vaughn. His goal is to “show a positive life changing message through our music and to do so in a musically technical fashion.” In order to do this, he makes a point to write songs that are encouraging, understanding and relevant to his listeners and the culture around them.

Chad Clark, lead guitarist from Amarillo, TX has also been playing guitar for 7 years. He enjoys punching out the technical, detailed, grinding and screaming guitar solos of rock & roll. His musical influences include John Petrucci, Delirious? and Kings X. He feels like the goal of the band is “to provide music that is good both lyrically and musically with a positive message that can give them an alternative listening choice other than the depressing, angry, bitter music that many bands are producing.”

Bassist Steven Adkisson is from Las Cruces, NM. He has been playing bass for 5 years and has had the privilege of being under the instruction of Neal Bowen, a well-known studio bassist and instructor at Visible School, for 3 years. He enjoys playing funk and jazz so he fits very well in this band and he adds a new twist to the rhythm section. His musical influences are Jaco Pastorius, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Foo Fighters.

Shane Flynn, drummer from Marquette, MI, has been playing all kinds of percussion for 7 years. He loves to mimic and play loops that you would hear in hip-hop and also to combine more than one style of playing. He says, “I feel that as a band we are a small community of brothers that can lift each other up and encourage each other.”

Playing together for just over 6 months, Brian Porter Band has had the privilege to perform at venues such as New Daisy Theater, Hi Tone Café, Isaac Hayes Restaurant, Café Soul on South Main St., Memphis Originals, all located in Memphis, TN and also at the City of Bartlett, TN Celebration.

If you get a chance to see the members of Brian Porter Band off stage you will notice that they are good friends and they enjoy playing together, but more importantly you will see they are constantly encouraging and lifting each other up.

All of the members of Brian Porter Band will blow you away with their musical talent and their genuine love for music and their listeners.
