t's only recently that Orlando modern-rock outfit Camerae has started to make a dent in the local club scene, but the band members have been playing together for about 10 years.

"We're trying to play out as much as we can," says guitarist Jonathan Kress, 23, who formed the group with his brother Andrew Kress (lead guitar/vocals), lead singer David Doberganes, bassist Adam Fletcher and drummer Corey Sentes. In addition to hometown shows, such as this Saturday's opening slot for Before You Exit at BackBooth, Camerae also recently made an East Coast swing of Hot Topic stores, a strategy that worked well for another Central Florida outfit, Whole Wheat Bread, when they were building buzz.

Camerae's style — intricate, yet propulsive songs with mondo choruses — is a pretty apt reflection of influences that include Thrice, Circa Survive, Incubus and Rush. Visit myspace.com/camerae for a sample of material on the band's 6-song EP "Passage."
