B.C.-based singer-songwriter Carly Thomas is the epitome of a worldly person: she's lived everywhere from Argentina and France to Thailand and Canada.
And it shows. Thomas brings her experience to all of her songs, offering listeners her words of wisdom through heartfelt lyrics and beautiful acoustic guitar lines.
Thomas's strong, clear voice is always thick with emotion, which adds to both the sincerity and beauty of her soft indie folk songs. Her tunes drip with truthfulness, as she isn't afraid to expose her heart in order to help her listeners mend theirs.
Thomas takes what she learned from her classical guitar lessons in Central America and adds her own poetic spin to it. With her earthy voice and raw lyrics, Thomas's sound is comparable to female folk singer-songwriters such as Ani DiFranco.

Thomas brings her talent to the Forest City this weekend; she will perform alongside singer Jarod Parlee at the London Music Club's Front Room June 21. Tickets are $5 and the show starts at 8:30 p.m.

When you're from the world, you absorb the values and gifts life gives you. And so, you give them back. The raw emotion. The questioning. The understanding. The bewilderment. The wonder. Life's rare. So is talent.
Born in Thailand; raised in Buenos Aries, Argentina; Paris, France; Evansville, Indiana; Ottawa, Ontario; and just about every other place you can think of, Carly Thomas has the ability to capture, not what life feels like; what it is. It's poetry of the soul and though most of us don't connect with it any more, it's what really matters. Because it's in the feeling that makes us what we are. Logic knows it's emotion. And there's a paradox for you.
Singer/songwriter Carly Thomas brings her insightful writing to song. Glimpses. Brief images. That feeling. A sideways glance. A rustle of something, anything. The sun breaking through at the end of a cloudy day and the moon taking its place, in what seems like, a minute. And though it may seem the same, there's a special difference to every day. Even if you are just frying chicken, or worrying about the hopes and fears tomorrow might bring, in her music and lyrics, you feel alive. That difference. She captures images and locks them, securely, in your head. She writes from a place that all of us, vaguely, remember.
Carly has played in Paris, New York, and now calls Vancouver her home. Playing open mics and coffee shops to start out, Carly is now playing with a full band - and just keeps drawing people in. Her second album titled, "Up This High" came together by a group of close friends and musicians that Carly has been working with in Vancouver. It's down to earth and honest, created with love at the Armoury Studios in beautiful Vancouver, BC.
Carly definitely takes her listeners on a journey. Through country roads and busy emotional intersections. You feel that what she is singing about carries weight and integrity. Music is truly something she was born to do.
