Here in MySmack I requested some conversation about things I was nervous about discussing. I am not a big fan of confrontation or ugliness. Those things tend to happen when people talk about issues that have answers that are not proven, in other words opinion based and things that I lack the information to know enough about. The response was positive from those who I talked to yesterday. And for those of you who did come by I thank you for putting me at ease. For those who didn't here is the second warning. I will open the floor on a light note by expressing an opinion of my own on something that I do know a bit about; music!

In the physical world, I spent the weekend doing one of the things I do best; appreciating great music. Friday night was a four band rock fest. All of which, were pretty awesome, but the one that I would like to share with you all is a band called Copasetic. They are a four piece, power-funk band. The intense sounds of this band get right up in your face and set you off into a trance of unbelievable proportions. I just love the drummer, he has one of the kindest souls I have encountered, but when he gets behind his enormous kit of multi-layered cymbals he kicks the double base with furious vigor and splashes brass all over the place, shifting the intensity of their melodic tunes into overdrive. The guitar player rips and the bass player grooves and they do it together, winding the steady cutting edge of the soul feel up into the power jam of rock and roll. All of this power thrives off of the soaring, breathtaking vocals of contrast singer Debra. She wails her songs with the weight of a siren. Her presence on stage guides me across the ocean of patrons and booze like a beacon under the lights. With the force of an opera singer, the torment of a prophet and the passion of lover in the night, her hands reach for the heavens and her song cuts into my heart. When I see her and hear her on stage, I am drawn to comfort her pleading. Go see this wonderful soul singer and her cutting edge funk band.

Saturday I went to party. The best music, hands down, to go enjoy good company and cheerful beer clinkin is the music of the Irish. Slainte! Drunk and Disorderly is a multi-instrumental, multi-singer, new age, yet still classic Irish Booze Band. They love people. They love beer. They love music and they are very good at it. They have an ironically dark humor to their style that makes you think, appreciate and laugh from your stomach. They play sing-along songs that the entire pub gets into and together, shake the very wooden floor with foot stomping, hand clapping and beer spilling joy. Everyone is your friend at a Drunk and Disorderly show. If I ever have the need to throw a big celebratory party and I have the means, they will be my band of choice.

Why amazing musicians like these struggle so hard to get recognition and people like little Hulkamania Juniorette will probably gain instant popularity, blow it and keep trying to rekindle it with drama baffles the hell out of me. I suggest going to look into at least one of these, especially if you are from the midwest!

Band Biography
CopaSetic, a progressive funk rock band based in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, is often described as a musician’s band with mass appeal. CopaSetic is dedicated to exploring a kaleidoscope of musical genres and molding them together with tasty grooves that will inspire everyone to move! They strive to play with a combination of swagger, passion and precision that is unparalleled.

VOCALS: CopaSetic is fronted by Debra G., a classically trained vocalist who is substance with style personified! After 8 years of recital and Opera training, Debra G. found a new love for music and songwriting when she became the lead singer for CopaSetic in 2005. This sweet siren sings with zeal and fervor; her lyrics unveiling her darkest secrets. Miss G’s voice can range from quiet desperation to sheer angst within a breath and is the heart of CopaSetic.

GUITAR: The dirty circus funk mad scientist Sweet Baby James Smola, has been playing guitar for 10 years developing a individual style that fuses old school funky rhythms with rich, full chords and eclectic melodies not typically found in modern music. His funky compositions are the platform for which CopaSetic is based.

BASS GUITAR: Ben Kelly, the youthful soul of Copasetic, is a spry bus driver of rhythmic grooves. Ben’s performance background and musical experience is a colorful range of all types of music. Currently working to complete a music degree while studying to perfect the art of Jazz, Ben’s passion for musical knowledge and performance has heightened Copasetic with a soulful and energetic vibe.

DRUMS/PERCUSSION: The machine that can keep time better than the Swiss, Joe Diaz has been playing for 19 years. Joe’s experience marching drum and bugle corp from 1998-2001 and his years of jazz studies has given Joe a strong technical foundation, a limitless rhythmic capacity, and has taught him how to feel the breath and support the soul behind each composition. Stimulating the mind, body and heart, Joe is the lifeline to which CopaSetic thrives.
