I keep being surprised by the number of quality bands happening under the surface in Orange County these days. This particular band, VOXHAUL BROADCAST, is my new favorite. I have the demos and every song is ready for FUTURE SOUNDS, so assume you'll hear them on FS29. Check out their Myspace page and watch this space for more on this act.

Voxhaul Broadcast (formerly blvd.). this is one of my close friends’ cousin’s band. i saw them for the first time a few years ago in orange county and have been impressed with how their sound has developed since. hopefully they won’t mind that i’m uploading a song from their myspace on here…. check them out if you get a chance.

Have to follow up on the VOXHAUL BROADCAST set I saw last night at Silverlake Lounge. The band will be featured on the soon to be released (this week I hope) FUTURE SOUNDS 29, but the band is even better than the recordings live. I couldn't find any live footage online, but I found this video. It's 10x better live and I can easily say that this is a band you'll hear plenty about as word starts to spread.

VOXHAUL BROADCAST – ROTTEN APPLES
One listen to this batch of demos and you’d never guess this band was from Orange County, feels more like Manchester, England, but it’s true. With lyrics like “I need your love in my blood, so I cut off all my limbs”, what’s not to like? A band with massive amounts of potential and star power in surplus, once the new recordings are complete I guarantee their message will be well received.
Management: Steven Melrose. Legal: Dave Kostiner, Davis Shapiro.
Needs: Booking.

"[an] up and coming Orange County band."

Balancing out meetings, work duties and shows during CMJ week is no easy task. I missed out on the first band on Friday's FADER Sideshow bill, but I did get to the party just in time for one hell of a band, Voxhaul Broadcast.

That is one of the best things about events such as this... the chance to discover new favorites. Los Angeles' Voxhaul Broadcast blazed through a set of dirty, soulful southern rock. Now, when I refer to southern rock, I mean more in a Kings Of Leon kind of way rather than Skynrd. They kicked off another day of music just right, making it just the right time to rock some Southern Comfort. Bring it!

Bio

We are often told to make the most of each day. But Voxhaul Broadcast, a four piece band from Orange County, California, took this mantra to the extreme. Frustrated with the formulaic nature of today’s indie rock scene, the band decided to record and mix their debut EP “Rotten Apples” live. In one day. So on a sunny day in June the record was recorded live by Dwayne Larring, mixed by Dave Larring and later mastered by Mark Chalecki at Capitol Mastering.

It was a decision that came naturally to these childhood friends. Having played together in various incarnations for years, David, Tony, Phil, and Kurt began to consider themselves more of a live band than a studio one. Previous recorded efforts had been mainly done at home, laying down songs they had the chance to pick apart and overanalyze. The results of this process bordered on stale, an adjective that is far from reflective of the energy and passion they exude on stage.

After signing with Leftwing/Retone Records early in 2007, Voxhaul decided to take a page from some of their favorite artists and embrace the kinks and mistakes that make live records so great. By harnessing a sound that reflects a range of influences from James Brown and Al Green to The Beatles and Donovan, the group composed tracks with smart lyrics and undeniably catchy beats. In turn, the results of their labor are 8 songs full of raw enthusiasm, echoing the sort of musical honesty that turns even the most pretentious listeners into fans.

Currently based in downtown LA, Voxhaul has been steadily playing shows at their favorite Orange County and LA venues. They have shared the stage with Dr. Dog, Eastern Conference Champions and Delta Spirit thus far. Piratecatradio.com called them a "cool Strokesy, soulful alt-rocking quartet" while futuresounds.blogspot.com says "With lyrics like "I need your love in my blood, so I cut off all my limbs", what's not to like? A band with massive amounts of potential and star power in surplus."

Now with the upcoming release of “Rotten Apples,” a name they chose as a state of comparison for the current climate of the music industry, the band will begin a west coast tour this fall. They will showcase at CMJ in October, and with a West Coast tour scheduled and possible UK dates near the end of the year these performances are sure to establish them as one of 2008’s most memorable and genuinely indie rock bands.
