"Michele Vreeland – Never Not Myself / Review"

“On NEVER NOT MYSELF (Michele’s) storytelling and poetry is strong… a few of the songs that
appear on this EP could be singles as they follow all the contemporary pop-rock rules; the vocal layering on the album is well done, most especially on the song “Understanding”… “LA Dream”. and “Nico” have great melodic hooks.”

"Never Not Myself"

"Vreeland's latest release is a fiercely personal and breathstealingly beautiful collection of songs on an EP entitled NEVER NOT MYSELF. Michele is unflinchingly honest and bold in her lyrics...she writes from an inner plateau of confidence, experience, and wisdom in respect to claiming self and keeping sight of personal goals in the midst of often turbulent relationships. Michele is a thinker; she doesn't just write descriptive songs that create solid images in your head as you listen, she takes a moment and makes it mean something. She ponders it and gives it truth and purpose. An incredibly intimate journey."

REVIEW OF MICHELE VREELAND BY THECAPITALCLINIC ON APR 2 AT 10:28 PM | 1 COMMENT
I have been meaning to swing back to give more serious listenin' time to Michele Vreeland and, like most of us, got lost in the overwhelming flow of music that is being created everywhere. However, the very first time I heard one of her early songs, "Wanted to say", it was enough to hook me and benchmark her work for further review.

In doing my homework on Michele, I came across her bio on The Cover Zone that described her extant works in part as follows:
"Wanted to say" was written with her brother Timothy Vreeland while they were sitting on a couch playing around. But later Michele fine tuned the music and lyrics to be what it is today! "I'm a person", written after she made it out of a bad relationship, is lyrically compelling and empowers you to feel stronger about who you are as a person. And her delivery when singing "Just me, I can be just me", defines high notes that have never sounded so fluid and clear! " Want more" an epic song, beautifully showcases Michele Vreeland's clean and clear low alto vocals mixed in with her signature charging high notes when she sings the line "you can sacrifice everything when you don't do, don't do what makes you sing" send you soaring to another plane! "Who I am", a rock infused ballad to moving on, leaves you wanting to know more!

Third party reviews should never be a substitute for your own impressions about how an artist's songs make you feel. However, they are useful to provide context, framing, and comparison. To me, Michele's songs up to that time are pretty well described in the Cover Zone review. Her songs reveal talent and progression as an artist. There is variety and growing depth, particularly in "Want More", a song that I had already added to my music library.

To me, her lastest song upload, Understanding, reveals Michele's progression to yet another level. This one has greater complexity and nuance and demonstrates MV's understanding of her real world of sound and where it might go - to move, if you will, "beyond Californy Girl". Michele is moving on to develop a more distinctive signature. I like this world: a little bit of country, little folk, still that "LA Girly" sound [which is OK] but with more willingness to experiment with her deeper chords which, to me, define her. This one has more urgency, more claim to a beat world. In fact, it beats. This one is my fav, so far.

I added "Understanding" to my Rock/Soul/Pop Playlist to join Michele's "Want More" that already resided there for quite a few months. When you have time, have a listen to both of these songs and let me, or more importantly, Michele know how it fits with the other fuzz artists in this list.

"Jersey Beat Never Not Myself Review"

MICHELE VREELAND - Never Not Myself (www.michelevreeland.com)

Offering up 7 songs worth of exquisitely bright, catchy and tuneful sparkling pop/rock, this EP CD immediately grabs the listener with its beautifully crisp, ringing and melodic sound. Better still, Michele Vreeland’s lovely soaring voice and sharp sense of thoughtful songwriting make for a formidable double whammy. Whether it’s the uplifting self-assertion of the wondrous “I’m a Person” or the heart-wrenching angst of the punchy, yet deeply affecting “Who I Am,” each and every last song scores a bull’s eye with spot-on touching and harmonic results. A radiant little winner.

Bio

An electrical aura of energy surrounds the music of singer/songwriter/producer Michele Vreeland and flows into songs that crystallize dreams, emotions and intentions.

These creative hues are diffused into the themes that comprise her upcoming release of Wild Horse. The title of the album is an umbrella under which the songs exist, explains Michele, who also produced the CD, alongside engineer and co-producer Sean Gordon. We went on a more electronic approached to this album, Im really excited and pumped on the new sound, Michele exclaims. Its more representative of the music I listen to.

She says when the two of them get into a room to record its nothing else but magic. She says he creates such a bed of safety, laughter, and technical skill that her music flows so generously and with ease. After years of working together she states they have an uncanny way of reading each others minds in the studio.

Ive had this album title in my head for some time now and wasnt sure why until I went on the journey of making this record. I didnt even know that Id be releasing it in the Year of the Horse, says Michele.

This album is an emotional ride of winning, losing, and rising up against all odds.

Born into the sounds of California, this native really connects into the heart of pop music leaving it in perfect harmony. Michele is a gifted singer/songwriter/producer with an innate sense of melody and harmony and a unique take on things which makes her lyrics interesting and distinctly hers. Her voice is exceptional, which, combined with her ability to arrange and produce, creates recordings that can be listened to over and over.

The third oldest of 11 children, Michele grew up in the Los Angeles suburbs of Norwalk, Whittier, and Long Beach, California; a graffiti-dotted landscape of warehouses and strip malls. Michele has a wealth of compatible talents. Prior to her musical career, she worked in feature films and editorial fashion campaigns as a hair and makeup stylist; and she is both an accomplished seamstress and a painter. She avows that as a visual person, it is her gift to see colors. I can visualize something before I do it. Music and color are very much tied together when Im singing a note, I hear it exactly for what it is. Also, when writing, Im telling a story. And visually I have told stories through editorials and fashion. Songwriting is another medium to do that.

As a performer, Michele is equally at home with either her full band or in a solo setting where she accompanies herself on her Luna guitar she endearingly calls Phoenix. And not unlike the well known Greek mythology of the legend of the phoenix, where a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor, Michele brings the same courageous yet venerable spirit to the upcoming album Wild Horse.

She performs in a range of venues from Los Angeles listening rooms like Kulaks Woodshed, and The Mint to such disparate venues as Six Flags Magic Mountain, Best Buy and the Antelope Valley Gay Pride Festival. My audiences are incredibly diverse, she notes, and different listeners hear themes in my songs that reflect their own realities.

I learn things uniquely, Michele remembers.  Im the kind of person who takes the good from everything and I leaves behind what doesnt work for me.

Wild Horse depicts a more life-changing, challenging journey toward enlightenment then its predecessor Never Not Myself. For instance, in her latest single, Wild Horse, Michele draws upon personal experiences to offer a rousing anthem of encouragement. She boldly depicts the challenges faced by everyone who has ever had a dream. Vreeland takes you back to that first moment when that dream was everything and she reminds you of how it felt. Michele has a genuine gift for writing, her line, Not everyone sees what my dream means to me, resonates with truth as much as they sizzle with passion. As the song builds, Vreelands gentle, seraphic vocals crescendo into an exhilarating message urging you to stay wild and free and never stop listening to that voice inside. The songwriting on Wild Horse blazes with real insight.

I wanted to be as venerable and truthful as I could be with this album, I dove into the sometimes uneasy parts of myself in these songs.

Moving forward is what Michele Vreeland does best! Propelled by an imaginative and restless spirit, a curiosity about life and art, and the willing ability to share it with a growing audience, she projects a vibrant mission of meaning, motivation, and magic. With just the purity of her tone, she can awaken the miracles within. Listen to this indie pop artist and be transformed.
