"Worth a Spot in your iPod"

"Worth a spot in your iPod. The key to a solid album is consistency. If I have to skip over 2 songs every time I listen, we have an issue. It’s About Time passes that test with room to spare. Production is tight and the vocals are solid the whole way through. Simply put, it’s got an organic sound that never gets sloppy. I could see myself putting this on repeat as I’m driving along an abandoned highway deep in the heart of Texas. Check it out for yourself if you need a break from pop radio. " - AlbumReviewBlog.com

"Bud Buckley: It's About Time"

It's comforting to know that while Americans are facing tough times, one can always turn to music to provide relief.

Bud Buckley, along with several talented Woodstock, NY musicians, has cooked up an album full of AOR tracks that succeeds on a lot of different levels. Sometimes the album is perfect as a Sunday morning soundtrack, other times a song will grab your attention with a clever hook or a sense of urgency.

Buckley's honest voice is accompanied by a lush production of strings, guitars, and percussion. The lyrics are often poignant and occasionally humorous, as in the track "Tatoo": "Bad ideas seem so perfect when they first inflame your mind - Possibly they'll show no mercy, going from cool to lame in time."

Buckley can also rock in a rootsy, earnest manner that will be familiar to fans of Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen ("Underground"). His quieter efforts resemble Crowded House, as acoustic guitars are deployed in an unusually effective manner ("Keeping Secrets").

It's About Time is an eclectic collection of songs that also manages to achieve a level of cohesiveness often lacking in 21st century pop and rock. Give Bud Buckley a listen, it's well worth the time.

"Hudson Valley CD Review"

"It's About Time" is a perfect mix of strumming softness and lyrical attitude. Combining an approach that's similar to Paul Simon and James Taylor, each track is intrinsically simple--yet as you listen further, each element of the composition becomes clearer, showing a complexity of the arrangements brought by his supporting cast of musicians.

Throughout the album, Buckley has hints of the rusty growl of Springsteen, the storytelling abilities of Eric Clapton and the freshness that brings "It's About Time" full circle. Combining classic elements, with a sense of sweetness and vulnerability, Bud Buckley has made an album that will surely last through time.

"Sincere Folk Rock"

Buckley's debut effort is a sincere set of acoustic folk rock, elevated by mature arrangements and the self-professed late bloomer's weathered vocals. "Can't Leave My Mind," with its quiet swell of strings and classical guitar, is a tender tribute, as is "I Still Remember (How That Feels)," a father's thoughts on the little girl he let go. Elsewhere, images are of Mellencamp-ian Americana, as in the roots-country twang of "The Silence There" and in the album highlight, "Keeping Secrets," its weary lovers "as still as the lake, as still as that old church where the faithful no longer come." 3 stars - Creative Loafing

CD REVIEW: Bud Buckley - It's About Time
By Chris Propfe - 01/13/2008 - 01:43 PM EST

Artist: Bud Buckley
Album: It's About Time
Website: http://www.budbuckley.com/blog
Genre: Acoustic Folk/Rock
Production/Musicianship Grade: 10/10
Overall Talent Level: 10/10
Songwriting Skills: 10/10
Best Songs: Let Me Go, Can't Leave My Mind, I Still Remember (How That Feels)
CD Review: Bud Buckley makes the kind of music that I want to hear when I listen to the radio, and that's why I don't listen to the radio. It's very rare to hear an actual singer/songwriter on the dial these days, and that's a shame, because I'm a huge fan. Well, Bud Buckley's bringin' it and he's adding something new to the mix.

With a warm, clear production care of Helen Avakian and Scott Petito, these songs come to life through the speakers. What really jumped out at me was the musicianship. The violin and background vocals of Let Me Go brought to mind the slow-groove of Elton John's, Madman Across The Water. Can't Leave My Mind channeled Gordon Lightfoot, Dylan and early Neil Diamond while sounding fresh at the same time. I enjoyed Underground too. Again, the background vocals kept it above water. With it's "wild frontier" theme, it would have fit well into any Western. Just listen to the classical guitar fills in Keeping Secrets and you'll hear the time and dedication that went into this recording.

Another great aspect to this CD is that you can listen to it all the way through, which is very rare for a recording these days. And the good songs keep coming. Elevator brought to mind early Police and The Silence There would have fit well on Phish's, Farmhouse. Now, grab a martini and get ready for the loungy, Tattoo. You will be transported from your boring headphones to a chic New York City champagne hut.

My favorite song has to be I Still Remember (How That Feels). It's a song that I wish I wrote. With it's haunting melody and simple but direct lyrics, you will think of everything you should have done and the legacy that you hope to leave behind. As far as legacy goes, Bud Buckley has his wonderful music, so he's set!

NIGHTLIFE
Published Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 at 4:30 a.m.

Artist: Bud Buckley (vocals/guitar/songwriting)

Base of operation: Venice

Style/genre of music: Acoustic rock

Bio: For Buckley, also a guitar teacher, each connotation of the phrase "It's about time" is significant. The retired New York state grade school teacher released his second CD, "It's About Time," in January. That's no ordinary feat when one's entire music career began late in life, no thanks to childhood echoes of callous schoolteachers. Buckley's own elementary school students rekindled his musical spirit. Curiously, one of those original fourth- graders, Kathy Feeney, now 21, co-wrote two of the new songs. After Buckley's 2004 debut disc, material accumulated and urgency goaded him (it's time!), yet his first producer was too busy to help. He did suggest that Buckley organize material by theme. Guess what's common to each of the 10 subtle, contemporary, neo-rock tunes on the tightly produced CD? Yup, time. So, truly, it IS about time.

Quote: Buckley told Helen Avakian, his producer for "It's About Time," "There's nothing you can say to me that will hurt my feelings. ... And so once I got that across to her, she would say, 'You've gotta rewrite that line,' or 'That chord change is too vanilla." ... I mentioned her on the album as my musical dominatrix."

Where playing: Althea's Restaurant (220 Miami Ave. W., 484-5187) in Venice, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Fridays and 4:30 to 8 p.m. Saturdays.

Where to buy CDs: $15 at shows, Boogie Woogie (Sarasota location, 921-7410) and Venice's Bella Luna (488-3089). Also, at CDBaby.com, iTunes and myspace.com/budbuckley1.

"Atlanta CD Review"

Experience sets apart the dreamers from the hopeless romantics, and with an education in journalism this guitar teacher, Bud Buckley, combines all the necessary facets to write moving songs.
He writes universally about ideas which speak to individuals without being cliché.

Buckley states “Let Me Go” (the opening track and my favorite) was inspired by Terri Schiavo, but his lyrics read like a “dear John” letter or a manifesto written by a madman ranting about being trapped inside a mechanical body or society refusing to listen to the melodies escaping from the vibrations of body language. The art in music lies in the interpretation, so make sure to read the lyrics as well as groove to his tunes.

The line that hits me like a rock to the back of the head in “Keeping Secrets” is simply, “I didn’t mean to sink my stones”. This line shifts consciousness from early childhood memories and play to the hard-hitting truth of an entropic reality. Energy dissipates and relationships grow old and stale. The secret’s out. Everything changes.

I love “Elevator” just because of the double entendre in the word’s sound “elevate her”.

“Crowded Memory” closes the course of haunted-sounding, stream-of-consciousness songs in Buckley’s debut album, “It’s About Time”, with repetitive choral lines and ghostly harmonies. The name of this album alone shows the dynamic of hidden meanings in melody and lyrics. I give his “It’s About Time” 4/5 stars and urge fans of music and writing alike to check out Bud Buckley’s fine blend of inspired songs at his website http://budbuckley.com/. Don’t “make me beg”.

Bio

Bud Buckley and Jax Resto are BudaRest, a multi-talented
songwriting/performing duo transplanted from New York to southwest
Florida. They are comfortably nested in the USA and Global top ten
Singer/Songwriter charts on Reverbnation.

They have just released their first CD, Too Much to Remember, 17
tracks that will appear in their soon to be released multi-media eBook,
novel, Too Much to Remember.

Jax has been a performer most of her life, from dancing and acting to
an 8 yr. stint with Ringling Bros as an aerialist to playing in bands.
Jax loves performing almost as much as writing and creating.

She played with female band Kore at the NY Mamapalooza festival in
2010, when they were voted Band of The Year. A Year later Jax formed FBI
(Female Band Invasion) before teaming up with Bud Buckley to form
BudaRest.

Bud performed all his life in a quite different arena. He was a multi-award winning journalist/PR director with the teachers union in New
York while at the same time teaching. The writing kept him in the eye of
teachers across the nation and the teaching put him on stage everyday
for a tough and demanding audience. They demanded attention and they
demanded he play his guitar and sing while teaching all the elementary
school subjects. Bud eventually studied finger-style guitar with well
known Hudson Valley guitarist, singer songwriter and music educator
Helen Avakian. He also studied voice with successful pop star Leslie
Ritter of the Amy and Leslie duo. He has recorded four CDs, three
produced by award winning songwriter Helen Avakian in Woodstock, NY with
well seasoned studio pros like Scott Petito, Deni Bonet, Ross Rice, Dan
Hickey and others. He is highly rated by Reverbnation and is constantly
in the top ten in the USA and World.

In only two years together, Jax and Bud have written over 50 songs,
and our on the brink of creating the very first rock eBook of its kind.
