"The Flutterbies featuring Maureen Davis"

Maureen Davis fronts this band with a special voice, one that oozes sass and soul and allows her to sell these original songs, each of which exudes an alt-country roots rock feel. “Louder, Louder,” with a slide guitar that really rips, builds to an almost cowpunk intensity. “Hummingbird Heart” has a nice country lilt, while “Damn Glad” is a divorce ballad with a wonderfully wistful bag of mixed emotions. Deftly performed and recorded with a clarity that emphasizes lyrics, these tunes could interest film/TV peeps. - Music Connection, Vol. 33, April 2009

"On Maureen's vocals"

Maureen Davis’ voice has all the great qualities of singers like Lucy Kalplansky, Pat Benatar (especially when she ‘belts out’), and Sue Foley while the guys in the band create a solid yet playful foundation… - www.altcountryforum.nl

"Toledo Says"

Davis is the whole package: soul-stirring vocals, provocative lyrics and sultry looks. This combination, on top of guitarist Bart Ryan’s mad slide guitar skills, helped them win the 2009 South Bay Music Award for best country artist. The band is sure to convert other rock enthusiasts who might want to break on through to the country side. - Toledo City Paper, May 12, 2009

"Rootstime"

Davis with her Alt Country band brings 6 great songs that makes one look forward to a bigger release… What is clear when listening to Texan-tainted “How I Get Over You”, country waltz “Faith In Rain” and the subdued “Hummingbird Heart” is that Davis is a master of all styles and allows her voice to drag like only the greatest vocalists can - Rootstime.Be

"OL Skool ROdz"

The Flutterbies (pronounced flutter-byes) has produced such a smooth album that it nearly slipped out of my CD player. It is true what they say about lead singer Maureen Davis’ voice — smooth as glass and just as sharp.

The band, which describes itself as alt-country, is fronted by Davis, whose expansive vocal range and oil-well depth truly brings the always thoughtful, often poignant lyrics to a steaming, blistery boil. At times, similar to Aimee Mann in emotion and reach, Davis can belt out a sultry sadness or rage that leaves one’s soul black and bluesy.

“Louder Louder” is based on the “true story” of a gravesite haunting. It’s fast, fearless and full of the kinds of hooks that make you want to play it again and again. “Hummingbird Heart,” a slower, more thoughtful track, features a not-out-of-place classical piano. And there’s “How I Get Over You,” featuring wet, breathless vocals flowing with a hungry, lascivious energy. The high-quality songwriting, instrumentals and spirit continue with “Faith in the Rain,” “Kill Him with Kisses,” and “Damn Glad.”....

Named Country Group of the year at California’s South Bay Music Awards, the band has received three L.A. Music Award nominations: Best Country Single “Hummingbird Heart,” Best Country CD and Best Female Singer/songwriter Maureen Davis.

Along with Maureen Davis, the Flutterbies are Molly Pasutti and Bart Ryan — backing vocals, Christopher Allis — drums, Bart Ryan —guitars, Jamieson Trotter — keyboard and Steve Whalen — bass. - OL Skool ROdz for May 2010

Bio

The Flutterbies are Los Angeles' hottest alt-country upstarts. Fierce and fashionable, lead singer Maureen Davis fronts the band with a dusty, honey smothered voice that "...oozes sass and soul..." (Music Connection, April 2009). Equal parts romance and riot, Maureen and The Flutterbies (pronounced "flutter-byes") seduce with pop sweetness and satisfy with bluesy grit.

The group's debut EP THE FLUTTERBIES FEATURING MAUREEN DAVIS was produced by slide guitarist Bart Ryan, engineered by Grammy winner Seth Atkins Horan, and co-written with Powerpop luminary Adam Daniel. The recording also showcases the talents of drummer Christopher Allis, bassist Steve Whalen, keyboardist Jamieson Trotter, and backup vocalist Molly Pasutti.

Since its release in March 2009, the single “Hummingbird Heart” has been featured in-auditorium before screenings at Laemmle and Angelika theatres nationwide and has also become the theme for GetToKnowUsFirst.org, a campaign to reverse California’s Proposition 8. In April, The Flutterbies were named Country Group of the Year at California’s South Bay Music Awards. And in December, Music Connection magazine featured the band in both its Top 25 New Music Critiques and Hot 100 List of Live Unsigned Bands for 2009.

The Flutterbies' Maureen first came to public attention as part of the original cast of the Tony-winning Broadway musical Into The Woods (starring Bernadette Peters). After touring Japan and Russia with renowned jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton, the diminutive diva capped her New York career performing at Carnegie Hall before running away to the circus: the Hollywood rock scene. Soon after arriving, Maureen signed a publishing deal with Mastersource Music, brainchild of Wayne's World actor/musician turned film music entrepreneur Marc Ferrari, quickly securing multiple song placements on hit TV shows such as House, Dexter, and My Name Is Earl. In 2007 she became vocal instructor at Santa Monica’s School of Rock/Rock Nation, teaching kids to wail like rock stars. And in 2008, Maureen toured America singing raw gospel with Michelle Shocked before forming The Flutterbies.

A smooth lyricist with a sultry delivery, Maureen sums up her life and her band: “For me, it’s veni, vidi, voce—I came, I saw, I sang… I flutter by."
