Gunn

Gunn is a dream. A dream of guitarist/producer Greg Gunhold. "I've been in the music business for most of my life. Done the recording/touring band, the studio musician and composer/producer. All very cool but, I always wanted to play the kind of music I loved. An up to date Blues showcasing the many influences that have inspired me over the years." What got this started was a chance meeting with Dan (bass) through an old friend of mine. He wanted me to join this project they were working on with a new singer. Short story - didn't work out but Dan and I really like working together and when I'd show him songs I'd been working on he was totally into them. In fact he'd practice them without me knowing and then play me the song the next time we'd get together! He was so keen and quick at picking up even really tough parts I just knew we should keep going and see what we could do together.
Eventually we found a drummer. We went through a couple of singers and 3 keyboard players over the next few months but we finally jelled as a unit. Finally our luck came full
circle when Brock joined. He's a very fine B3 player (he always makes that point. He's a B3 PLAYER!) and there IS a difference. He just knows the instrument so well. The really funny thing is that Brock was the guy I always wanted in the group! It's just that he's been a freelancer in Calgary for a long time and he thought his other projects would keep him from working with us. That was until he heard us play at a big jam party where he was also on the bill. He called me the next day and said that he wanted in!
We've now recorded our debut CD - "Resonance Road". It's a pretty amazing record showcasing our totally unique take on the Blues and cuts a wide swath through the genre. We have enjoyed incredible response from our fans and are enjoying airplay on CKUA. They have been very supportive of the band and have said really nice things (thank God!!).
The great thing is that everywhere we've played the response has been amazing!
As an update to all this Gunn has been very busy with some high profile work of late including both the media event and the kickoff concert for the Calgary Bluesfest! We've been opening for a couple of major acts in various festival settings.
On top of all that Gunn has changed it's lineup a before we recorded the new CD. We now have Sally Chappus backstopping the band on drums. She is totally AMAZING and has toured with some huge acts including a lengthy stint with David Clayton Thomas. She brings a level of groove to the band that really sets us apart!

On vocals we now feature Lynne Chwyl. She began singing at 43! Lynne delives gutsy, honest performances that entrhall anyone who hears her. She won many Country Vocal competitions including Big Valley (three times) Ponoka Stampede (four times), the Ivan Daines picnic, and several Cops for Cancer fundraisers. After all that she found the Blues and hasn't looked back! Performed at the Magnificent River Rats Festival. Guest singer on the Bruce Conte (Tower of Power) central Alberta tour, guest singer with Studebaker John's New Years Eve in Edmonton. Performed at the Kelly Jay benefit, and performing at Calgary International Blues Festival in August 4, 2013. She's also shared the stage with Hank Lionhardt and Fistful of Blues, as well as many other local celebrities.
