""Something sticks to you...""

Love and Ammunition EP Review
by Daniel Brunner

"Something sticks to you from these rhythms, this guitar and voice. Easiness? Freedom? Inevitably pictures are firing through your head - pictures of cheesy Hollywood movies with cheesy road-trip-musical accompaniment. But these songs are different. Jenny manages it with aptitude to push your mind off the highway - to personal places and very private locations which all have their own little stories to tell. Together they merge to something very special, something far away from busy highways. Some unused Texas trails through Davis Mountains and Big Bend National Park with Rio Grande at the border to Mexico. And then, you start seeing the flowers next to the highway. Inconsiderable. Tiny. But incredible beautiful. And slowly and very gentle, almost bashfully, they open their petals to disclose - little by little - their beauteousness. Into the golden morning sunlight. A rough diamond of wide scope to appreciate, but not useful to merchandise in trendy boutiques. Thank God!" - http://breitengrad38.de/

""The sweetness speaks for itself..""

"Jenny Gillespie's music is like honey straight from the beekeeper's hand to the jar – a home-grown and quality product that doesn't need a pitch – the sweetness speaks for itself. Just as with the flower's nectar that is magically folded into honey, you can hear the source of these songs – the people, places, devastations and triumphs that birthed the finely crafted and deeply poetic lyrics. The instrumental diversity draws you in, but the lyrics sustain your interest long after the beautiful melodies fade into silence."

""Sweet voice, and nicely written lyrics...""

"I found this EP, called 'Love and Ammunition' by Jenny Gillespie, on the Internet Archive. 'Bradforton' and 'Grenadine' are by far the standout tracks, but I enjoyed the whole thing. She has a sweet voice, and nicely written lyrics."

""An exceptional talent...""

While surfing through the worldwide network, I discovered Jenny Gillespie. I was mostly struck by her voice....it's enormously emotional and reminded me of Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries.

Jenny Gillespie is an exceptional talent and has the ability to take feelings and transport them with her versatile voice.

Bio

Chicago-based singer/songwriter Jenny Gillespie continues to weave and bloom her dreamy folk-pop songs on her new album Light Year. Tender, womanly vocals soar and sparkle over these songs that blend rootsy sweetness with darker rock atmospheres.

Fans of Feist, Laura Marling, Martha Wainwright, and Sun Kil Moon will gravitate to this album, instrumented thoughtfully by world percussion, pedal steel, accordian, and more, but with the insistent thread of Jenny's inventively tuned guitar, piano, and a broken-angelic voice that heightens and speaks unabashedly to the listener's emotions.
