"High Soundz Magazine"

Edgy, poignant, rough and honest are just a few words one could use to describe Camille Bloom's music. Because her influences range from Shawn Colvin to Pat Benatar, the Seattle-based singer/songwriter has a style which is not genre-specific. Her tunes range from heartfelt ballads to balls out rockers with a PJ Harvey - Ani Difranco vibe, though her style is uniquely Bloom. While she is best known for her high energy shows, her three records are nothing to sneeze at, each one providing insight into this singer's soul. Her sophomore disc, 2004's Say Goodbye Pretty, was produced by Paul Kimble (Radiohead and David Gray) who brought her thoughtful compositions to full fruition. Now fully endorsed by Gibson guitars, she has upped the ante and is ready to conquer the world one city at a time with her full band, the Recovery, to promote her brand spanking new CD, Ten Thousand Miles. The new disc catches the songstress doing what she does best: performing live. Recorded at the Columbia City theatre in front of a sold out house in April of this year, the disc covers the span of her 6 year career. Catch Camille Bloom in Seattle later this month - July 20, 2:00 pm at the Bite of Seattle. -hs- - Tony Englehart

 Impressive!

This thirteen-track collection features Camille on lead vocals and guitars as well as other proficient players on drums, bass and piano. Her musical style is acoustic based with an alternative edge and shades of folk and funk. Bloom writes hard-hitting lyrics about personal experiences and life. She sings with intensity and power yet her vocals are velvety and sweet, an intriguing combination. Camille's songs have memorable hooks, edgy guitar rhythms and plenty of innovations. 'Jimmy' is a poignant song about the death of a nineteen year old. Camille's vocals are rich and reflective on this acoustic tale. 'Painted on Smile' has a snappy beat an edgy hook and features commanding singing and lyrics. '17' is another catchy song with a strong beat, subtle acoustic tones and versatile vocals. Camille Blooms is off to a notable start with her first CD as Within Me is impressive! - Kweevak

Music can be many things for people. Generally, it's an outlet for emotional release, whether it be anger, joy, desparation or fear; it is to each his - or her - own. For Camille Bloom, her new alterna-funk rock tunes weep in their reflections on longing, guilt, and the fear of something too good. In her latest song, "goodbye," the haunting melodies accent her thoughts of taking control over her own life and choosing to say "goodbye" to the inner demons that plague us all.

""Say Goodbye to Pretty" CD Review"

This is wonderful; full of life; wild, sweet and rich in its sound textures; graced with songwriting that fills the heart and surprises the mind. It is the work of an artist who is truly coming into her own, a woman who has fully digested a broad array of influences and incorporated them into her work, and now gives us, without question, exactly who she is. It is the CD that all who recognized great promise in Camille Bloom's earlier work will rejoice at.

Recorded with uncanny care by producer/engineer Paul Kimble (who also lays down occasional back-up vocals, keyboard, bass guitar, acoustic guitar and lead guitar parts), the CD captures Camille's voice impeccably and showcases all her strengths. Let's talk about three strengths here. First, this voice which is uniquely elastic, which can purr, can sound sexy and coy, can wail and change registers faster than a speeding bullet, and can win you once and for all with its pure beauty will sound even better to you each time you listen to the recording.

Camille seems to have left behind any uncertainties about what her voice can do, and the quality of her pipes seems now to ring forth almost effortlessly. There is no sense that she is trying to prove to anyone that she can sing; she can. Period. Bask, for example, in her beautiful reading of This World, a strong personal statement slightly reminiscent of the best work of Tom Prasado-Rao. Second, as a songwriter, her music seems to be deepening and maturing. She isn't reticent in any way about saying what matters to her, sharing her fears, reciting the triumphs small and large: I found love sitting across from me, I found love in the people on the streets, I found love in my family, I found love in the most important place, I found love in me.

Further, Camille is mastering the art of the hook that doesn't beat you over the head, but greets you like a cherished friend each time you listen to a song, so the songs seem better and better with each listen. The third strength, then, is her guitar work. Her acoustic guitar, often quirky, always fascinating, drives most of the songs, creating a sizzling energy and tension. At times, the guitar like the voice becomes sweet and gentle, but in a rocker like the addictive "Habit" (with its edgy recurring riff reminiscent of a 1980s Howard Jones song), Camille lays down a groove that clearly invites the talents of Paul Kimble, drummer Michael Cotta, bassist April Sather, and lead guitarist Dave Brewer to give their all to the realization of her musical ideas and instincts.

Get this CD! Live with it! Memorize it! You'll agree: It will undoubtedly be one of the musical highlights of your 2006!

""Say Goodbye to Pretty" CD Review"

What strikes me most about Camille Bloom is very powerhouse voice. It's very strong, yet has a soft, maybe even vulnerable quality. She's able to go from an emotional pleading tone to an almost desperate shout. Very nice.

Next one realized what great songs these are. I found myself singing one of her songs (in my head, of course, not out loud) hours after listening. And In fact wasn't sure who it was. I just sort of shrugged it off. Then it wasn't until I put the CD on again the next day that I realized it was hers. That to me means that these songs are well written and catchy (in a good way). It was "Pretty" if you want to know. "Goodbye" is very emotional and makes great use of the crescendo. That's always a good thing.

On "I Found Love" it almost sounds like she's channeling early Ani DiFranco. "Soon Your Past" might be my favorite tune here. At least it is today. I could change my mind because really these songs are all good. Camille Bloom's primary instrument is the guitar but there are a lot of instruments at work here. The instrumentation on this record is also very professional, and the production is very rich sounding. A solid release all around.

Bio

Gibson endorsed International Act, Camille Bloom has played the most premier venues in 8 different countries including Canada, The U.S., Germany, The Netherlands, UK, Denmark, Belgium and Ireland. Combining percussive guitar and a voice that can "purr and wail" (Victory Review), "Camille's music can make even the rain dance." (Mike Galaxy Indie Music) Though modest about her achievements, in the last six years, she has been featured in Performing Songwriter Magazine, had songs licensed for use in twenty one shows on Major Network Channels, MTV, E! and Oxygen, completed over 30 national / international tours and has been added to over 40 major and college radio stations throughout the U.S. and Western Europe: She also charted on the European FAR (Freeform American Roots) Charts in 2009 with other music greats Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, & Iron & Wine.

Known for her incredibly dynamic voice and edgy acoustic rock, Camille has toured the U.S. playing the most premier venues on both coasts - from New York City's Bitter End, Boston's Club Passim, Seattle's Triple Door, Tractor, and Crocodile, Los Angeles' The Mint and over 150 other rooms spanning the nation. She has had the chance to share the stage with such acts as Smashmouth, SUGARCULT, Carbon Leaf, Metric, Brandi Carlile, Sarah Bettens (K's Choice), Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) and many more.

Touring full time for the past six years, Camille has gained an avid and adoring fanbase with her high energy and intensely personal show. She has released three full length albums, two EP's, and one Live DVD, all of which received incredible reviews: "This is wonderful; full of life; wild, sweet and rich in its sound textures; graced with songwriting that fills the heart and surprises the mind" (Bill Fisher, Victory Review).

Bottom line, Camille Bloom is a powerhouse of a performer: said to be "like Ani Difranco dipped in Maple Syrup". (Spokane Inlander). Camille can play with the powerful punch of a 6 piece band - or play acoustic shows.

Bandmates include: Michael Cotta on Percussion, Jim Watkins on the Bass, Thaddeus Turner on Lead Guitar, Gaelen Billingsley on Back-up vocals, and Jessika Kitzman on Cello.
