"Only Seconds EP review"

Northern Room’s 4 song EP “Only Seconds” highlights 4 great pop/rock tunes. This 4 piece incorporate radio friendly pop and alternative rock styles i would closely compare to the vibe of U2. Very cool and unique synth and piano with strings also works in their favor giving the music an even brighter bigger sound. My personal fave “We’re on Fire” has a very catchy standout chorus and guitars that remind me of The Edge from U2. "We're on Fire" should get them great exposure from this single from the EP. These 4 songs will be great on a full-length album. Hope to see a full length in the future.

"Full Review: Northern Room - Last Embrace Deluxe Edition"

http://albumproject.wordpress.com/2007/11/08/full-review-northern-room-last-embrace-deluxe-edition/

The corners of my mouth began to point up, and my ears danced with excitement. All this taking place about 30 seconds after inserting Northern Room’s CD and pressing play. The talent and potential this band carries with them is frightening, but what is scarier is that a major label has not scooped them up yet.

“We’re On Fire” is an absolute hit, plain and simple. The intro riff, steady drum beat and smooth vocals easily capture the listener from the very start. There is a Mute Math feel to the song, which is what originally drew me to the song when I first heard it on the band’s website.

“Galaxy”, “Dutch Radio” and “Stars of God” are some of the albums strongest songs and with them all back to back the album has a killer opening. “Galaxy” should suck you in with it’s first line of “Piano’s bleed for superstars…”. The ambient music mixed with strong vocals excel the opening. The song is able to just slip from the verse into the laid back chorus without effort.

Much of the record is mellower than the opener but that doesn’t distract or change anything because the slower songs bring with them just as much a sense of passion that flows out of the speakers. The mix of faster and slower songs is pretty even with “Waiting” and “Everyday” creating a bit of diversity on the second half of the album. “Everyday” has rich bass line during the verses that absolutely pops, adding to the song.

The album is 2 of the band’s EP’s put together, which sort of sucks for the people who bought them before, but great for all the future fans. The 3 acoustic songs are labeled as “live” but sound just as flawlessly recorded as all the other tracks on the album. The band just about tops them self with the acoustic version of “We’re On Fire”, it is just as good if not better than the original.

I love when an album is able to write the review for itself because there is just so many good things to say about it. This is a band you need to listen to, and an album you need to buy!

Bio

Northern Room creates uplifting atmospheric rock, featuring strong vocals blended with layers of instrumentation.

Formed in the Autumn on 2004 by Andrew Jonathan, Michael Morgan, and brothers Micah and Tony Olla, the quartet were inspired by such diverse genres as shoegaze, new wave, power pop, and indie-rock. Combining a layered instrumental foundation with driving rhythms and melodic vocals, Northern Room spent the next six months crafting their unique sound. Then, in the Spring of 2005, they fled their home state of Wisconsin and recorded the Last Embrace EP in Nashville, Tennessee.

This first official recording, released independently in the United States in February of 2006, includes the dreamy Galaxy, the haunting This Wreckage, and the electronic-flavored Last Embrace. In January of 2007, Northern Room returned to the studio to record an additional four songs which were independently released as the Only Seconds EP, including the atmospheric Stars of God and the driving rock hit We're On Fire. In April of 2007, Japanese label BM.3 Records released the contents of both EPs as a full-length album -- titled Last Embrace -- in Japan.

In late 2007, Northern Room combined the ten tracks from both EPs, three live acoustic tracks, and one previously unreleased song -- Home -- to create Last Embrace - Deluxe Edition. This enhanced CD, which also contains a music video for Last Embrace, was independently released internationally in November of 2007.

Fresh from a packed residency at Milwaukee's Hi Hat Lounge, Northern Room is touring regionally in the Midwest to a rapidly-growing fan base, supporting such bands as the Silversun Pickups, Jack's Mannequin, Ben Lee, The Hush Sound, Bon Jovi, The Gufs, Mute Math and Switchfoot.
