Bio

Language Arts is a Hip-Hop group based in Durham, North Carolina. Emcees Aden and Pierce and DJ Pillzbury have toured, educated and performed all over the United States, with “original, innovating… vocals and poetic lyrics that educate” (Chapel Hill’s DTH). Language Arts has performed with Hip-Hop pioneers, The Last Poets and 6-time Grammy nominated Jazz vocalist, Nnenna Freelon, they have hosted and performed alongside Dead Prez and the legendary Grand Master Flash, and they have recorded songs with DJ Skaz Digga and internationally treasured poet Maya Angelou. The former hosts of a monthly Hip-Hop showcase called the Fantastic 4: Celebrating the 4 elements of Hip-Hop, emcees Aden and Pierce are now focused on performing, Hip-Hop education and recording their sophomore album entitled, Language Arts presents: Class. Pierce is the 22 year-old son of Grammy nominated Jazz vocalist, Nnenna Freelon, Aden is the 24-year-old son of Blues performer Sandy Darity and nephew of award-winning poet Harryette Mullen. It’s in the blood.

"What sets us apart is our grind. We do shows, community workshops, Hip-Hop education seminars, lectures, clubs, festivals - anything we can get our hands on. Our live show is an electrifying performance of high-energy edu-tainment and dope lyrics. What more could you ask for?"
-Pierce Freelon (of Language Arts)
