Bio

Biggest influence was the Beatles. "They taught me that in order to get to the meat, start with the salad. A DAY IN THE LIFE is a far reach from SHE LOVES YOU YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. The ones that shaped my "Just tell the story and lie like hell while you're doing it" approach are Billy Ocean, Robert Palmer, Billy Joel, Bob Seger, Bonnie Raitt, and The Eagles. Houston in the '60's was a true garage band industry, and Barney got together with local talent and through several member changes after numerous gigs , "Reality's Children" was born. In the true garage band spirit, musicians more or less picked their poison based on what talent the bands required at the time to keep the dream alive. Few were indispensible. The weak were moved out to make room for the greater good of the band. A distinct sound was defined among the youth of RC when Tommy Delgado came on board at the ripe old age of 14. After the initial audition, Barney made the move to bass guitar to make room for TD and the original bass player was moved out. Jerry Creed on drums brought RC together with perfect timing, and Barney played the bass like it was his original instrument of choice. George Reyes was brought in to pick up the second guitar and add voice to Barney and Jerry's vocal leads. The band got hot. The emergence of Market Square in downtown Houston as "the place where true music flowed" is where RC found themselves. Clubs such as Allen's Landing, Mother Blues, and the Cellar Club became regular haunts for RC and the group's music morphed from the top 40 approach to a new edge. Allen's Landing on the bayou was a lay on the floor mind blowing experience that presented the top "Acid Rock" bands of the era. Trips to a true and legendary Houston hotspot, THE CATACOMBS left enough of an impact that RC opened their own club in northeast Houston, The Neon Life, and it became one of the hot spots for the teenage mainstream looking for new sounds. "I loved the performing side of the biz, but found that it actually distracted me from writing. Too much noise and interruption to think most of the time. We were moving so fast it seemed like a blur. It got to the point that there was never any time left for anything but music. Oh, and like that is suppose to be a bad thing? Seems like music is a Siren that keeps calling me into the rocks no matter how hard I try to fight the current. God bless the Siren."
