It's been years since the Cranberries went supernova and the feeling in limerick is that it could be the time for another local act to make the big step up.
Walter Mitty & The Realists.... epic! ....Talking Heads-meets-The Rapture - Hotpress
you're dealing with an act more than a little above average.
Falling somewhere into the new wave/funk/punk category, tracks like 'Don't Tell Me' really showcase a superb ability to pump out a quality tune.
- Connected Magazine
.. Talking heads and Zappa vying with more recent influences, and driven by demented front-boy Niall McTeigue, they conjured up an unsettling concoction with gems like 'Lie In The Summer', 'Green Light Go' and Red Is The Number'.
Watch Them Go! - HOTPRESS MAGAZINE
Like a musical Moses standing atop the slow moving ebb of the Shannon, this Limerick/Leitrim four piece have discovered they possess the power to turn mere water into funk. And people are queuing to be baptized..........

"uncontained psychotic engery, a band loaded with natural adrenalin.... amazing!" - the frequecy Ireland Music alternative
We Should Be Dead, The Fewer The Better and Idle hands to name but a few truly made this festival one to remember. But in this simple mans opinion it was Walter Mitty and the Realists who stole the show with their original brand of new wave funkadelica. Frontman Niall Mc Teigue (with his uncanny resemblance to razorlight front man Johnny Borrell) set the world to rights with his electric performance. Knockout stuff.
It is with anticipation that we look to next years Great Friday Festival which promises to be bigger and better than this years… if that were possible.
The profits from the day went to Worthy Cause to support the building of the Self Help Community Centre in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Essential Viewing - THE IRISH INDEPENDENT- Nick Kelly
While the substance is undoubtedly there, as is evidenced by catchy future debut single 'Red is the Number', the band are also blessed with two heavy weapons in an increasingly superficial music industry - a great name and a charismatic lead singer in Niall Mac Taidhg who would give Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell a run for his money.

Walter Mitty & The Realists BIO
Walter Mitty & The Realists are an Irish rock band built to fill dance floors, with a live show so enthralling it has to be seen, heard AND felt. Fully formed in 2008, The Mittys have already toured Scotland with The Proclaimers, won the prestigious Best Band award at 'Indie Week Canada' in Toronto, launched an album - including lead single Green Light Go which featured in a Heineken sports ad campaign.
Line Up
Leitrim brothers Niall and Conor Mac Taidhg (both: guitar/ keys/ vocals) and Limerick natives Colin Bartley (bass) and Paul O’Shaughnessy (drums).
Recordings
Their first album ‘Green Light Go’ was recorded and produced by The Cranberries sticks-man, Fergal Lawler, who was among their earliest admirers. Lawler, now also a music producer, vowed to capture the band’s enormous live impact on the record without compromising on its pop core - and that’s exactly what he did. In fact, his eventual interest and involvement with the record and the band found him featuring throughout the album on percussion, some vocals and keys as well as producing and mixing. The album was mastered by Aiden Foley, who can now add The Mittys to a portfolio including the likes of U2, Foo Fighters, and Damien Rice fame.
Album is available on iTunes
Walter Mitty & The Realists has played internationally and at home with heavy-weights including Bloc Party, The Ting Tings, The Proclaimers (entire Scottish tour), Dirty Pretty Things, Reverend & The Makers and CKY. Irish shows have included appearances with The Rubber Bandits, The Blizzards, Fred, The Chapters, Director, Frank and Walters, The Flaws and Fight Like Apes.
Award
International highlights included winning the prestigious 'Best Band' at Indie Week Canada 2009 which led to signing with Canadian management company Cool Planet Entertainment and their label 45 Records. The band was also short listed for 'Most Promising New Act' at the 2010 Meteor awards.
