KC Jockey is definitely an artiste on the verge. On the verge of making a big splash on the world music stage and beyond thus taking his career to another level. Especially if the carefully developed promotional strategy of his media savvy manager Tesah Linton goes according to plan.

KC was born in Jamaica where he grew up in a music environment surrounded by music and entertainment royalty such as Bob Andy, Marcia Griffiths, Bob Marley and Carl Bradshaw, who were all friends to his father Percival 'Teddy' George Waite who is a former coach of Santos soccer team. But he migrated at an early age to Brooklyn N.Y. in the U.S., where he developed his skills as an entertainer. In school he was no slouch, but his mind was always on music, which found him busy writing lyrics during class time.
His opportunity to showcase his dejaying skills came when he hung around New York sound systems such as Third World High Power, Stereo Pride, Star Tone, African Love and Mini Mart Hi Power, which gave him the opportunity to match skills with dance hall legends, Sassa Fras, General Trees, Louis Lepke, Toyan, Johnny Ringo, Mikey Jarrett, Screechy Don, James Bond, Shaggy, Sleepy Wonder and others. His role models and mentors during those early years was none other than the lyrical genius Shinehead and Gregory Nose who he sees as the pioneers for many of the musical styles that are so successful today.

KC has always spent a lot of personal financial resources to produce and promote his musical career. His label Sweet Sadie’s Productions is named after his mother who died some ten years ago. He credits his first recordings to New York producer Mr Wacky for whom he did 'Don’t Give Me No Crack', he also recorded the single ‘A Nuh Me Name Bompsie’ with Music Master (Witty) & Stereo Pride. Since then KC Jockey has performed with the best of the best from stages all over the USA performing alongside top rappers and dancehall artistes namely 50Cent, Jadakiss, Mary J. Blige, Beenie Man, Lil Kim, Juvenille, Spragga Benz, Baby Cham, Tanya Stephens just to name a few .

With recent developments in his career KC (Karl-Marx Fernandez Waite) Jockey, is ready to take his rightful place among the pop, reggae, and dancehall stars of today. His push to the top coincided with the chance meeting with shrewd artiste manager Tesah Linton, who had previously formed the group Voicemail. This meeting was a match made in heaven as finally KC found someone who really understood his goals, aspirations and philosophy as an artiste and most importantly understood his personality. Tesah on the other hand saw his potential as a superstar and knew exactly how to get him to that status. With the management team put together by Tesah, firmly in place, KC can now concentrate on his art which now includes his big move into acting. While he is working on his first official debut album and promotional videos, he has been playing roles in upcoming movies including a minor role in AMERICAN GANGSTER starring Denzel Washington along with Common and T.I., EGO starring Eve, he is also in I AM LEGEND with Will Smith. His acting abilities stems from his activities in school, which includes doing recitals and performances, his ability to act was noticed by casting agents who saw some of his videos. KC Jockey developing multimedia persona also includes previous television ad campaigns, and television appearances on Miami's Deco Drive on channel 7, Where My Ladies AT mini series which will run during August & September on BET.
KC's profile has also increased immensely since his collaboration with internet darling and R&B sensation Santalina on the video remix of her song SHAKE which has received thousands of hits on her My Space site. The SHAKE video is currently being featured on numerous websites as well as on COLORS TV in Europe in over 120 millions households.

In Jamaica, KC Jockey can be seen on a giant billboard along the Constant Spring Road main thoroughfare in the midst, of several all girl schools. It’s the first promotion of its kind in Jamaica, and the results have been great. Now people tons of people are going to his My Space page and discovering more about his talent and achievements.

KC is very fervent about his Jamaican roots, and announces that he is 100 percent Jamaican, which is a message to some detractors who are trying to brand him as a foreigner.

Meanwhile KC's team is remaining focused. According to Tesah, they are not trying to get him signed to a major record company because she sees it as being much more profitable to be independent, as you get a greater percentage of your album or CD sales. She also sees digital distribution of music as a very good sales tool, because even though the price is far less than a CD, with millions of people buying through digital download, it all ads up.

The key to the whole thing, she says is the promotion of the artiste. So far she has the international end covered. The challenge she says is Jamaica, where it was difficult to get airplay for KC on radio. KC’s Street Promotions Manager Boswell ‘Stampede’ Lammie and Tesah took his music to the streets was able to get the DJs to spin his music with outstanding results. Stampede is considered to be the top street promotions manager in Jamaica who was very instrumental few years ago to create the awareness of the artiste in the Jamaican dancehall earning KC the hit songs DIGGY DIGGY featuring Elephant Man, LOOK GOOD MACHINE and TIC TOC. KC is currently getting radio spins and his videos being played extensively on Jamaican TV, that hurdle was diminished.

KC’s has merged creative energies with Hip Hop Producer Stanley ‘Rellee’ Hayden and hit dancehall songwriter Patrick ‘Black Pearl’ Howell to produce the single PARTY SPIRIT which is creating waves in Jamaica, Japan, Europe and certain areas in the USA. The artiste is preparing himself for the release of this fifth video PARTY SPIRIT. The single was recently chosen as a sound track for the BET Mini-series WHERE MY LADIES AT along with his earlier hit TIC TOC.

Jay Z, Sean Paul and Punjabi MC are among the guests appearing on "The Gal Dem Jockey," the forthcoming album from New York-based dancehall artist KC Jockey. Due June 8 on the artist's own Sweet Sadie's Records label, the set comprises new music and singles released over the past two years.

Other notables making an appearance on "The Gal Dem Jockey" include Jadakiss, Elephant Man, Luciano, Baby Cham and Chico Debarge.

A staple on the New York reggae scene, the Jamaican-born artist (real name: Karl Waite) named Sweet Sadie's Records in memory of his late mother. The imprint bowed in 2002 with the 24-track "Diggy Diggy" compilation, which featured cuts by Sizzla, Lexxus and Red Rat, as well as the title cut by KC Jockey and Elephant Man.

KC Jockey also intends to expand Sweet Sadie's Records beyond his own releases. "This is a full service label handling all aspects of the music business from production to marketing to distribution," KC Jockey says about his Brooklyn, N.Y.-based business. - Billboard Magazine

For an artist to truly be successful in this day and age, a significant amount of marketing has to be done, and the right team has to be in place to get the artist where he / she needs to be ( This was recently proven by the first week sales of the independently released “Pon di Gaza” album). Kc Jockey has invested in himself and his career and over the last few years he has done numerous projects with some top names in the music industry gaining him the respect of some for his grind and envied and hated on by others, but nonetheless he is still pushing on doing what he loves.

United States-based deejay Karl-Marx Fernandez Waite, more popularly known as KC Jockey, said that dancehall and reggae music needs to be cleaned up if the children are to be saved from the negatives in society.

"The recent announcement that songs promoting violence and sexual content will be banned from the airwaves is a step in the right direction," said Waite.

"The future of the world is badly affected when dirty and meaningless lyrics are allowed to be aired," he said. "While not fighting against any music, it is a fact that the children will live the lyrics. We can do much better."

Waite said that reggae needs to be treated with respect as it represents the best of Jamaica. "It is acceptable worldwide and if it is cared for, then it will give positive returns," said Waite.

New single

Waite, who is in the island to promote his latest single, Rub Your Body, also pointed out that artistes need to arm themselves with business knowledge so that they are not exploited. Rub Your Body is currently number one on the UK reggae charts and is also doing well in Australia.

The Jamaican, who was born on Lyndhurst Road and emigrated as a youth, said that his acting career is also in good stead with appearances in American Gangster and I Am Legend. He also said that he is currently doing a soundtrack for the Paramount Pictures film, Fiction.

He is working on his debut album titled The Waite is Finally Over, being produced by multi-platinum producers, such as Eric Miller of Wabejon Entertainment, who has produced stars such as Akon, Janet Jackson and Yung Joc, and Kenny Smoove, who is responsible for the careers of Changing Faces and CASE.

Lights! Camera! Action! If music's the bike which rides a star into town, then the movies are like the space shuttle.

Unlike many of the wretched entertainers who have been caught up in 'beefs', KC Jockey has been in splendid form behind the microphone and before the camera.

The deejay has been steadily making moves in the movie world. His acting résumé is building scene by scene as he has been in feature length movies to Sesame Street and doing commercials.

One of his first big breaks came in the form of American Gangster. "Involved in minor roles in American Gangster starring Denzel Washington where he plays a street gangster, one of Denzel's friends. The movie is about the true story of a Harlem drug lord who smuggled heroin in the caskets of soldiers killed in Vietnam. Russell Crowe, who played the detective, rappers Common and T.I. also were part of the cast.

His latest is a short film, Where My Ladies At, which is about girls who will do anything to be a video chick. It was aired on BET on Wednesday, August 1.

As for his problems getting a passport, "The world's is waiting … the judge made a decision. Lots of deals were being thrown away and nuff being made now. I have with me a team which is well organised. People used to fail me and put me two steps back, but now I know who's who."

Also, he plays a role in I'm alegend starring Will Smith, where he plays an escapee from New York. The movie's about the last man alive in Los Angeles, as he busies himself with preparing for a nightly attack from the rest of the world - all of which have transformed into blood-thirsty vampires.

Aura

What makes acting so easy to you? "Doing a video is similar to shooting a movie. You are doing takes ten to twenty times. The sky's the limit. You have to love what you do or you won't enjoy.

"Crossing from music into movies, you have to have aura, presence, and swagger," he says matter-of-factly. "Me have it inna mi from birth. From the time I did the video for Look Good Machine, I acted skit at the end and it was from that that I have been noticed by directors."

So what it's like rubbing shoulders with mega stars? "I've been around stars on a level; however,this was real crazy, crazy feeling. It was on an astronaut level. You see them on TV and now working and rubbing shoulders with them is like one step ahead."

He, however, had a twist. "People are people and some stars are cocky, some funny.

When one's around them, one can't act like you're star-struck. We have to make the actors comfortable and they will warm up to you. So no picture taking and posing withthem and ting," he said with a chuckle.

"The sky's the limit regardless if I live in New York, Japan or Iraq. I'm a Jamaican representative representing all of us. If all of us unite, we are strong. If yuh nuh have self-esteem, you will detour."

His latest single, Party Spirit, on the Raging Bull rhythm is kicking up a storm. However, the song which has propelled him into many more homes is Shake done with the Latin bombshell Santalina. It has reached over 300 million homes.The crossover is gathering momentum and there's no turning back.

If there is a downside to this double entertainment play, a confident approach to life, it is in what seems to be the suffering of his music. And, whatever he says, the best is what KC Jockey always wanted to be. Will he be a great actor? A lot of objective observers would say an emphatic no. Is he a good deejay? For what it'sworth, I think so.

Knowing his mother wanted to see him do some good with his talent and realize his lifelong dream of music, KC committed himself to the studio, sometimes 18 hours a day. "The main thing I keep in front of me is my kids and my mother," he says. "If I keep them in front of me, I’m able to do positive stuff. I’d rather lose that way than any other way."

In 2000, KC Jockey made his dreams and his mother’s wishes official when he established his own independent record label. Fittingly, he named it Sweet Sadie’s Production, in her honor. Attached to a four year contract with VP Records, the first single KC dropped under his new umbrella – where he currently acts as CEO, rapper, actor and producer – was "Step To Me."

"Diggy Diggy," ironically the song that instigated the KC Jockey/VP Records’ marriage, was arguably one of his most successful, spending a year and a half on BET’s now defunct "Uncut." He continued the course of cutting hi-definition videos, in time surfacing as the first independent reggae/dancehall artist to break into the market with such fury. At the height of his promotional/video assault, KC Jockey erected a full size billboard on the streets of Kingston and in turn, arranged for one half of the coinciding video to be filmed there… even in his absence!

However, KC Jockey has endured a long legal battle to obtain his naturalization as an American citizen due to his past mistakes. "November 4, 2008 was not only the biggest day in American history, its was the biggest day in my career. I’m promoting my new record "Rub Your Body", my new video is finalize, I just completed an amazing photoshoot and now after fifteen years, I have finally received my passport. God really has his hands on my career." states Jockey.
