"Film Theme Song Nominated for Best Orginal Song at the Feel Good Film Festival"

“I DON’T MIND” By The Land of Deborah
From the Short Film, “POTLUCK”

“I Don’t Mind” is a crucial component to setting the tone and atmosphere of the short film, Potluck.

Deborah was brought on board to provide music that would give the audience a sense of nostalgia for the old seventies comedies like The Partridge Family. The instruction she was given was to make it happy, sweet, a take-off of old-style “family values” programs.

This is a movie with a slightly skewed version of family values, tempered by the present state of the family and the influence that those bygone days (the sixties and seventies) have on a community today. The best way to emphasize that “off-kilter” modern take on family values and modern life, was to juxtapose it with music that reminded us of a more wholesome and innocent time.

The movie opens with the instrumental version of “I Don’t Mind”. The lightness of the tune reflects beautifully on the character of Gail, a mother who still lives by the ideals of her youth. Gail lives in a world where the “Summer of Love” never ended.

The movie closes with the version of “I Don’t Mind” that includes lyrics. It’s a light and lovely song that now represents the daughter, Talia, and the love that she and her fiancé refuse to lose sight of amidst all the pressure of blending their families on their wedding day.

Potluck is meant to be a light comedy that makes a subtle comment about modern life in a single neighborhood in the city of Vancouver, BC. Potluck is Kitsilano and everyone who lives there, including writer Michelle Muldoon, knows a family like Gail and Talia.

Thanks to Deborah, you can walk away from Potluck, the short film, humming a tune that reflects the rich heritage of Canada’s original “Summer Of Love” community.

“I Don’t Mind” is a musical representation of the themes and characters of the short film, Potluck, as well as the community of Kitsilano. Creating music that reflects well on a film and a community is a tall order, and Deborah, with the song “I Don’t Mind” succeeded perfectly. - Michelle Muldoon, Writer/Director/Producer

"Brit Talent Relocated June 2008"

“One need listen no further than The Land of Deborah’s latest release, You are Here, to witness one of the smoothest voices in the city. Coupled with distinct yet subtle instrumentation, The Land of Deborah’s sound grows to resemble that which may have occurred if M.I.A. set out to make a Carly Simon record.”
