"Eric O'Connell settles into the Northland music scene"

An Excerpt of the interview with Matt Perrine (of Eric O'Connell and Courtney Carlson):

“I actually convinced him to move up here so we could work on music, but he didn’t exactly know my plan,” Courtney confides. “He has all this music, and we like to sing together.”

This is how the interview went: Eric would begin to answer a question about his career thus far — like how now, at 51, he’s really just diving into this music thing “with two feet” — and then Courtney, sensing that he was leaving something out, would whisper some additional information, usually something funny, because she would start to laugh out loud profusely. In turn, Eric would smile, laugh (though in a more restrained manner than his 29-year-old daughter) and give her the floor.

It was infectious; these two have a lot of chemistry.

Bio

Eric O'Connell's daughter, Courtney Carlson, persuaded him (and his wife, Karen) to leave his comfortable blue-collar life in Saint Paul to live near her in Duluth, Minnesota. His daughter had a secret intent. Her plan was for them to perform his music, written over the past 25 years. She was determined and he agreed. He dug out his music (literally jammed in a drawer) and they started performing. Eric has had the luxury of discarding all but his favorite tunes. The result is a collection of poignant, sometimes cutting, but always moving songs. They have just released their new CD, "If Love is What You Do."
