"Women in Music Feature"

...The band is made up of a trio of sisters who combine spiritual lyrics with Celtic influenced music. The best category for the group is probably New Age, but the band also has a mainstream sound in some of its songs. All three sisters are very talented, providing both vocals and instrumentation for the trio and having creative interests outside of music according to their website...The band's two CDs are available at their website. Power, Love, and a Sound Mind was released in 200 and has an Enya-type sound, especially on the song "Always". "Constant" is more mainstream sounding with a thumping drum providing accompaniment to the sisters' harmonized vocals. Amplified, released in 2001, continues with the more mainstream sound. "Resurgum (I Will Rise Again)" is a poppy and upbeat song while "Dedication" contains impressive vocal harmonies and has a Celtic influence to it.

On their more mainstream songs, the band sounds like Irish group The Corrs with their use of traditional instruments, such as violin and flute, and vocal harmonies. The sisters' religious beliefs are not explicit or didactic in their songs. Instead, the songs convey general spiritual attitude without preaching...

The Warrior Poetes have combined their religious upbringing with their musical talent to bring awareness to the plight of people in Third World countries. The sisters are Artist Associates with the organization World Vision. According to the band's website, the sisters were drawn to World Vision because of the organization's commitment to family. By sponsoring a child from a Third World country, the organization not only takes care of the child but will also "teach his parents job skills to increase the family income and standard of living, as well as provide new school supplies and classrooms, clean water, medical care, and improved nutrition and hygiene for the whole community." The sisters state that, " we are all about people reaching their potential - as many as possible. Partnering with World Vision broadens our ability to do that not only here in the United States of America, but worldwide."

"Black Potatoe Festival"

...Eight acts performed on Friday, when the festival, as it did on Thursday, presented music at night only. ... Three women who fronted bands (Copeland, Kathy Phillips and Nadine Goellner) and the all-female trio Warrior Poetes occupied the last four slots in the show. Three all-male bands (Scarecrow Collection, Wiser Time, and the Brass Uncle Band) and solo acoustic performer Walter Vanek appeared before them. The women, it turned out, had a lot more to offer.

Warrior Poetes, who performed next-to-last on the second stage, was easily the most unconventional act on the bill. A trio of sisters who sing and play guitar, keyboards, and violin, Warrior Poetes specialize in catchy, upbeat, harmony-rich pop songs, often in Christian themes. In every genre of pop music, performers routinely adopt jaded, world-weary stances, but the Warrior Poetes have somehow managed to hold onto their cheerfulness. - The NJ.com Star-Ledger

In their eyes, God had a plan. How else to explain siblings who naturally sing three-part harmonies being born to music-loving parents, who also are ordained ministers?
In 1989 the sisters became The Warrior Poetes. ...Poetes is a word in Latin for "one who brings truth in a way that others understand.
Over the years The Warrior Poetes have developed a diverse audience, singing in churches of all denominations, earning awards for songwriting, and opening at gospel music festivals for headliners like Rebecca St. James and the Paul Coleman Trio. - Jill Cohen

Bio

Three sisters. Their music ignites with incomparable drive, contagious optimism, unparalleled sensitivity for people, unstoppable passion, and uncommonly genuine, yet decidedly killer smiles. Musicians. Entrepreneurs. Humanitarians.

Compelled by the desire to maximize people toward their God-given purpose and potential, MUSIC has become their method as these three very different individuals come together to write exceptional songs and lyrics. Relocating from their native New England in 2007, the band has most recently focused on building community and putting down roots in Kentucky, playing regionally at festivals, the World Equestrian Games in Lexington, local fundraisers, and public schools. November 2006 heralded their third independent release, Anticipating Arrival a 12-song album with fresh perspective, a pleasant combination of driving beats and fluid ballads, and an infusion of the threes vocal and instrumental talent as never experienced before. They began their harmonizing early in life, officially formed as a band in 1999, and began touring throughout New England, New York, and Pennsylvania building a following of faithful fans and releasing two full-length albums, Power, Love, & a Sound Mind in 2000 and Amplified in 2001. In 2003, the sisters brought their instrumental talent to the fore in their live show, raging additional attention to their already solid vocal and songwriting capabilities while expanding their performance base to a national level from New York City to Seattle, Buffalo to Orlando and internationally to El Salvador and Ireland in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

Garnering press from radio airplay and interviews, TV-tapings on both national and local networks, as well as magazine and newsprint, these women have filled the seats of various venues large & small -- festivals, colleges, churches, coffeehouses, clubs, and camps. They are daily crossing genres and breaking barriers. The band has shared the stage with musicians like Dr. Bobby Jones, Lourds, Rebecca St. James, Tree 63, Raining Jane, Melba Moore, Billy Sprague, Paul Coleman, Barlow Girl, Geoff Moore, Joy Williams, Ten Shekel Shirt, Tremaine Hawkins, and LaRue.

Challenging people to put their money where their mouth is Warrior Poetes has supported a vast number of international and local organizations that are on the ground working hard to make a difference for those in need physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. These groups include World Vision, Relay For Life, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc., and many more.

Three Sisters. Strong Music. More than a Band.
