"CD REVIEW: Arrows From a Warrior's Quiver"

Clint Lawrence of Atlanta, GA recorded his debut album Arrows from a Warrior’s Quiver in Austin, TX. Clint has been writing songs for years and with the help of his son, Craig, he has created a wonderful collection of country/folk songs for the whole family. With an insight into life and the ability to express himself through song, he has captured true emotions in the style of Gordon Lightfoot, Jimmy Buffet, and Peter, Paul and Mary.

From the Sands of Iwo Jima to the Cliffs of Normandy is an epic tale and a similar listen to Gordon Lightfoot’s Legend of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Lawrence’s songs are definitely heartfelt and well written. His style is one that will be very familiar to all who delve into folk music and remember the great country folk legends.

Montana Brown Eyed Girl, a personal favorite, is a slow folk ballad about love lost and realization of love found through the Montana brown eyed girl. Clint chronicles relationships with girls of all eye colors and cleverly states that “brown eyes may comfort you tonight.”

While for most listeners this album may seem outdated in the modern music scene, Arrows from a Warrior’s Quiver is a diamond in the rough for all who enjoy the genre.

Bio

CLINT LAWRENCE is a Texas born but Atlanta-based performing singer/songwriter and Medical Doctor who believes in the healing power of music as therapy for the heart, mind and soul.

Clint’s 2009 debut CD “Arrows From a Warrior’s Quiver was recorded in Austin and produced by his son, Craig Lawrence, a 2004 Berklee College of Music graduate. Eddie Horst (www.eddiehorstmusic.com), Emmy Award winning Composer and Arranger for Faith Hill, Bruce Springsteen and others, praises the CD: “'ARROWS FROM A WARRIOR'S QUIVER', IS A WELL-WRITTEN COLLECTION OF 14 SONGS MOSTLY IN A COUNTRY VEIN BUT ALSO WITH TRADITIONAL AND FOLK OVERTONES. FROM THE TITLE TRACK: "ARROWS FROM A WARRIOR'S QUIVER/ SPEEDING ON THRU TIME/ MAY YOUR FLIGHT BE A LONG AND TRUE ONE/ MAY YOUR AIM BE HIGH", TO 'SLEEPY TOWN’: "SLEEPY TOWN/ DAY COMES EARLY/ ROBS US OF OUR DREAMS/ BUT THE MEMORY LINGERS ON", THESE ARE SONGS THAT ANYONE WILL ENJOY. THOUGHTFUL AND MEMORABLE.”

Clint’s songs are a blend of folk and country, best characterized as “Americana” in genre. Despite his busy medical practice obligations directing the only lung transplant program in Georgia, Clint performs locally at “Open Mic” venues in the Atlanta area, including Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, The Red Light Café in Atlanta, and Ragamuffin Music in Roswell (as featured performer on occasion), and the Crimson Moon Cafe in Dahlonega.

Clint travels extensively and during this past year has shared his music at many “Open Mic” venues, including the Bluebird Café in Nashville, the Opening Bell in Dallas (Featured Performer), Ruta Maya in Austin, Uncommon Ground in Chicago, and McGonigel’s Mucky Duck in Houston. He also joined Kent Finlay’s Songwriter’s Circle at the famed Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos on two occasions.

This year Clint turned his songwriting skills to the story of one of his lung transplant patients, in “Waiting for the Call”, which has become quite celebrated locally. He also enjoys performing in community service and charity events, such as “the International Conference on Medical Volunteerism” at Emory University this April, and “500 Songs for Kids” in Atlanta this May. He also helped organize and performed in the Georgia Transplant Foundation’s “Battle of Physician Bands” in Atlanta this June, helping raise over $23,000 in proceeds.

Clint is dedicated to growing as a performing singer/songwriter and is currently working towards release of his second CD within the next year.
