"As If! Review"

Tom Hedrick is f***ing weird, but I like him. He's got a classic sense of pop craftsmanship, a multi-instrumentalist's palate, and a whimsically twisted vocabulary. - Shredding Paper

"As If! Review"

Tom Hedrick's quirky little album is a '60s pop-influenced confection piled high with jokes upon jokes. It's geeky. It's clever. Bottom line, it's funny. Thankfully, it's much better than you'd expect it to be. Hedrick's grasp of straightforward '60s pop is firm and accomplished. - Splendid E-Zine

"Salads and Ballads Review"

Tom Hedrick is a curious figure in underground American pop music. He is one of the few contemporary talents that, while obviously rooted in ‘60s Ameri-pop, he exhibits no overt derivation from any particular artist – a difficult task indeed given his employment of familiar 4/4 backbeats, electric guitars, and other combo accruements commonplace since 1964. Perhaps that’s precisely the charm: that Hedrick’s take on pop is essentially his own amalgam.

Tom Hedrick makes unique and memorable music. At this time, he is distinguished for creating his own imaginative jumble of ‘60s pop hook-laden melodies and uncommon lyric content. As a vocalist – it goes without saying that he is first-chair. - Mono Records Review

Bio

I've spent a lifetime taking odd pieces of pop culture and everyday observances and sifting them through my unique filter.

My songs are darn funny at times, other times sardonic, and other times heartfelt. I sprinkle clever turns of phrase in my lyrics. My records feature full arrangements, but live it's just me and the guitar.

You don't get a sullen, brooding troubadour with me. You get a singer-songwriter who's not afraid of some between-song banter with the audience.

My material ranges from tributes to dead Presidents, to statues made of cake to broken down vans and outer space.

I don't categorize myself as a "novelty" act because I'm just as prone to throw in straightforward material in addition to the funny stuff. I put on a show.

I've traveled the U.S. and played in many different cities: New York, LA, Austin, San Francisco, Phoenix, Portland, etc.

From 1993-2001 I was the principal songwriter, bassist and backing vocalist for the Power-Pop trio The Fitsners (originally in Rochester, NY and ultimately in the SF Bay Area). The Fitsners issued two CDs on indie labels PopSmear Records and 11345 Records. We appeared twice at NXNW and once at SXSW.

Since 2002 I've issued three self-released CD's: "As If!", "Salads and Ballads", and "Red Giant".

My influences? Everything from The Beatles, Big Star and Todd Rundgren to Bob Dylan and The Band (Basement Tapes/"Big Pink" era stuff) and Tom Lehrer.
