Playing music is what they do and they seem to love it.

Vocalist/guitarist Newsome and harmonica blower extraordinaire/mandolinist Isaac Corbitt are ecstatic that “we’re actually rolling around doing this as a job,” Newsome says, even though answering questions like “where are we going to sleep and shower, it’s kind of weird.”

The brothers say, despite some of the uncertainties that come with life on the road on a budget, cruising around the Southeast in van living the life of a traveling musician bringing good-time, Southern-flavored jams to crowds is truly a dream come true.

“We’re incredibly blessed,” Newsome says.

Originally from Jacksonville, Fla., and with family and a base of operations in Franklin, N.C., Newsome and Isaac say those two points, along with Murfreesboro, form a nice geographic triangle, an area they want to saturate with the sounds of the Corbitt Brothers.

The group performed in virtually all of the music halls and juke joints in Murfreesboro during the 2008-2010 period, including weekly stints at Willie’s Wet Spot and HandleBar.

“It blew up over there. It was packed, we were bringing in so many people to jam with us,” Isaac said.

While Murfreesboro music lovers embraced the group, the brothers wanted to travel a bit more and spread their sounds after releasing their locally-recorded, self-titled CD last year. So now Newsome, younger brother Isaac and drummer Brandon Buck are kings of the road, with an old but sturdy full-size van as their chariot (“Stand by your van”).

Though the idea of the band having drums in the group “was something Isaac and I always argued about,” said Newsome, but “the core band will be the 3 of us now.”

The legacy of the van actually began when Isaac was invited to open up for Blues Traveler with the last Straw in Kentucky, Newsome explained.

“We went to the show, everything was great, we met John Popper,” he said.

The next day when traveling back to Tennessee on I-65, their S-10 pickup decided to leave its back axel and spun out of control

“It was horrible; we should have died,” Newsome said. “But it came at the perfect time.
We get in this crash where no one was hurt, and get $5,000 (in insurance money for a truck that would have needed to be replaced soon anyway).

Keep it upbeat.

As much musical talent as can be found at a Corbitt Brothers performance—a wide variety of guest players are welcome on the stage with the band though from time to time—the brothers say there’s never been an official “Corbitt Brothers rehearsal;” they introduce new songs, sections and guests right in front of audiences.

For a chance “for a hollar and a swaller and to raise a little hell with the Corbitt Brothers” locally, check ’em out on Wednesday, May 25, at Bluesboro on the square; you never know who may show up to jam when the Corbitts are in town.

Corbitt Brothers Newsome and Isaac
Cindy VannoyThe Corbitt Brothers Band present themselves with a well rounded set of bluesy rock, gritty southern country and a classic flavored edge to great timeless tunes.

Starting acoustically with the stripped down soulful simplicity of Newsome's balladeering an original song showcasing eloquence tinged with a gravely edge vocally. Isaac manned the harmonica effusing effortless streams of artistic amore.

Introductory nods to the classics such as The House Of The Rising Sun, and rounding out the start of the set with another original composition uptempo and fresh.

Newsome and Isaac were then joined by a the band which included Joey Fletcher Lead Guitar, Lane Baker Bass and Brandon Buck Drums. The full sound had a great strong bassline and tight instrumentals with the pure enjoyment of artistry shining through.

I Walk The Line led followed by Marshall Tucker's Fire on The Mountain showing a straight shot of style and stability. Newsome the front man was joined by brother Isaac on harmony.

Diversity reigned with adding Billy Jo Shaver's Georgia On A Fast Train and Old Crow Medicine Show's Wagon Wheel. Wagon Wheel is the most requested song and had many in the audience joining in.

The band throughly enjoyed the stream of creativity and flow which was appreciated by the crowd. Newsome was gracious frontman and shared the stage with guest Dave Broomhead who brought some funk with Stevie Wonder, Rolling Stones and great dance tunes.

The Buganut Pig is a nice intimate venue with a small well lite stage with a mix of MTSU students and the mature music connoisseurs. Welcoming and offering great service definitely worth a night out enjoying the entertainment.

Bio

Raw, fierce, God given talent to create and perform music is what best describes THE CORBITT BROTHERS. "Simply put, The Corbitt Brothers jam! They have a killer, hard-driving, southern rock sound with a well-rounded sound of bluesy rock, gritty southern country, and a classic flavored edge to great timeless tunes.” Their original music comes from the heart and is relevant to the times we live in.

THE CORBITT BROTHERS’ passion for playing music and entertaining is second to none. They engage a crowd with explosive energy, amazing talent and magnetism from the first song to the always requested encore.

Another major bullet in their arsenal is ISAAC CORBITT on the harmonica. He is one of the best harmonica artists in the country and has been compared to John Popper of Blues Traveler. When he lets it rip on the harmonica, crowds are electrified with the sound and on their feet in minutes cheering him on.

These young, self-taught brothers/musicians were born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. They moved to the Nashville, TN area in 2008 to pursue their music dreams and formed THE CORBITT BROTHERS band in 2009 as a twosome hitting the music scene in TN for a year. In mid-2010, they added a drummer to their band and went on the road full-time. The band is currently based in Franklin, NC.

THE CORBITT BROTHERS are:

NEWSOME CORBITT (vocals, guitar)” Soulful balladeering tinged with a gravely edge vocal” best describes Newsome. His excellent guitar playing … rhythm, lead & slide, set a solid foundation for the band. He is also an extremely gifted song writer and wrote most of the songs on their debut CD.

ISAAC CORBITT (harmonica, mandolin, bass & back-up vocals) Incredible, mind blowing, jaw-dropping talent best describes Isaac’s unique ability on the harmonica. At his young age, he is already considered one of the best harmonica artists in the industry. With his back-up vocals, mandolin & bass playing on certain songs, he is quite the entertainer.

BRANDON BUCK (drums) Flare and incredible rhythm best describe “Buck’s” abilities as a drummer/percussionist. Originally from Nashville, TN, Buck keeps the beat going for the band.

The band members have individually or collectively shared the stage with Hank Williams, III, David Alan Coe, Sunny Edwards and Dave Dix (of The Outlaws), Bob Burns (of Lynyrd Skynyrd), and many more.

These guys may be new on the scene but are tearing it up everywhere they play. Their love and passion for music flows out to their audiences and leaves them screaming for more!

THE CORBITT BROTHERS CAN ADAPT TO ANY AUDIENCE PROVIDING GREAT MUSIC AND GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. CHECK THEM OUT ... YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!
