ABSTRACT: Leadership is all about motivation and connection. Learn fun, challenging, and engaging improv exercises to challenge they way participants think about listening, decision making, and follow through. Listening, accepting, and exploring all facilitate a higher level of innovation and results, and allow participants to develop more intentional leadership skills. Handouts will convey the fundamentals of improv and a list of exercises and resources for continued exploration. The talk back will verbally process how the exercises relate to a specific concept and how that is applicable on the broader scale of leadership. Participation in the activities by nature engages the students/staff in the acts of listening, accepting, and generating ideas.
PROGRAM GOALS:
• Educate students/staff about the fundamentals of improv
• Show how those fundamentals are transferable to real life situations of leadership
• Provide students with a set of improv exercises to serve as a foundation for continued exploration
• Through the use of improv exercises facilitate specific action that represents innovative leadership on a micro-scale
• Small group break out sessions that engage discussion specific to each group and each campus
• Lead a talk back that allows students to discuss how these actions can directly impact their student leadership teams
Gillian Bellinger has been an improviser and workshop facilitator for the decade. She has taught workshops for Macy's, State Farm, AT Kearney, National Business Travelers’ Association, and Gilda’s Club to name a few. Gillian is very fancy and has a BA in Communication Studies and Theater from Hamline University and conservatory studies at The London Academy of Theatre and The National Theater Institute. She is also a graduate of The Second City Conservatory and Annoyance Theater Improv Training Center.
She is also principal actor in commercials for Harris Bank, Time Warner, NorthShore Healthcare, and Unitrin Auto Insurance. She's also rocked out a bunch of short films and industrials as well as starring in Red Letter Media's Feeding Frenzy, a comedic horror flick. So if you're watching TV late at night and think, "Was that...?" Probably.
Gillian is a house emcee at Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank and Claremont. A writer for the Ray William Johnson show Equals Three, she also tells the jokes at the Comedy Store, Zanies, and her church sanctuary. She was an Acme Comedy Club's Twin Cities Funniest Stand-up Semi-finalist and California's Funniest Female Finalist, and has opened for James P. Connelly, Laurie Kilmartin, Tom Clark, Dwayne Perkins, and Tom Rhodes.
She was an ensemble member with The Second City Hollywood Improv Ensemble, Twisty: The Second City TC House Ensemble, The Second City TC Musical House Ensemble, Minneapolis ComedySportz, Chicago ComedySportz, Laugh Out Loud Theater, Improv Kitchen, The Comedy Shrine, and Improv Acadia in Bar Harbor, Maine.
