"Band Feature: Small Room 9"

They may have started in a small town, but Small Room 9 boasts a big sound and an even bigger future. Consisting of members Rod Mooney (vocals), Glenn Sasser (guitar), Joseph Kinkaid (drums), and Rusty Galt (bass), Small Room 9’s music embodies pure rock and roll.Hailing from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the band has already experienced major success. They have toured the U.S. and Canada and have shared the stage with artists such as Ludacris, The Wailers, and Chingy. Small Room 9 have also been featured on the video game Rock Band. After being contacted by Marlene Palumbo of IndieInk, a division of Rock Band, the band soon heard their song on the game next to artists such as Stone Temple Pilots and The Rolling Stones. They have been compared to the Foo Fighters and U2, but the band states that they don’t try to sound like anyone else.

Lead singer Rod Mooney says that he has become tired of the negative themes in a lot of music and has always tried to exert a positive influence. Mooney says that their name has now taken on a bigger meaning, and is a reminder of their small beginnings and the hard work they have put in to get where they are today. Currently, Small Room 9 are touring and promoting their self-titled album (SR9). They are also playing the Cutting Edge Festival in New Orleans and CPRFest in Biloxi, MS along with Evanescence and Foxy Shazam. Later this year they will be shooting a live concert video as well as a concept video in Orlando, FL. They are also working on their next album, which they hope to record in 2013. - Venture Magazine

"SR9: Album / Music Review"

I firmly believe that music has the power to inspire you; to give you an extra push, some extra strength to power through whatever it is you’re doing or dealing with. For music to reach you like that, it really needs to be special. Bands like U2 and The Foo Fighters know how to write a song that can lift you up and give you the hope and strength you need to get moving. Well add another band to that list: Small Room 9.

Small Room 9 take the inspirational lyricism and guitar versatility of U2 and mix it with the edge and rock and roll attitude of The Foo Fighters. The result is a new rock and roll band that can inspire and drive you forward to help you seize the day. - Seeds the Hype Tree

"SMALL ROOM 9"

(Jackson, MS - 07/17/2004)

Small Room 9 has been together over two and a half years with its current members. Founding members Rod Mooney (vocals, guitar) and Glenn Sasser (lead guitar) have been together since the beginning for close to five years when the band was started in the fall of 1998. Harvey Lott (drums) has been playing for almost four years with SR9 and Josh Ishee (bass) has been in the line up over 2 and a half years. Small Room 9 is based around the Hattiesburg area with members from Collins, Seminary, and Ellisville, Mississippi. SR9's sound is compared to bigger names such as Stone Temple Pilots, Fuel, U2, or Tonic. Powerful guitar riffs and moving lyrics have given SR9 a distinct sound all their own that can only be described as original rock. Nothing too heavy, nothing too pop, just straight up ROCK and ROLL.

SR9's first taste of sucess came in the Summer of 2000 when SR9 independently released one of their first songs "Rain". The song gained huge support from the Hattiesburg/Laurel area and was the number one most requested song for three months on three local radio stations, KZ94 Three, Rock 104.5, and SL 100. In the spring of 2001 Small Room 9 was picked up by two of the nations largest booking agents, The Music Garden and Entertainment America. This helped SR9 reach out beyond the South Mississppi region and play at larger venues and gain a broad fanbase across the Southeast. After months of rehearsal and writing SR9 was finally ready to put together their first album that was originally intended to be released independently. The recording sessions began in December 2001 at Terminal Studios (grammy nominated for work on "O'Brother, Where Art Thou?") located in Jackson, MS. After four months of hard work and long studio hours, Small Room 9's first album was approaching completion and other people were noticing. On April 20th, 2003, SR9 signed a contract with Digiscope Records, LLC. Digiscope helped SR9 complete the album and brought in mixer/engineer David Maurice (Madonna, U2, Bjork, Garbage) from London, England who worked extensively in post-production and mixing of the album. The results speak for themselves; ask anyone who has heard any track off of SR9's album. SR9 takes pride in what they have accomplised and there is no stopping in sight. Small Room 9 was selected in February 2003 by Budweiser to play on the True Music Live tour. TML is a tour set up to support local music aross the nation and help local bands collaberate and reach a nationwide audience.

Fans often ask what influences the lyrics and sound that Small Room 9 has. SR9 has never had a plan or pattern when writing music. All of the lyrics are inspired by current events, personal relationships, emotions, and just about anything that has affected one or more of the members. The music has been influenced by other great artist from every genre in music, coming together to help create Small Room 9's sound. Until you have seen one of SR9's live performances, you cannot understand the raw emotion and energy SR9 has put into their music, and how it all comes out on stage.
