"World Rhythm Magazine"

Kwanza Jones is an artist whose goal is to express her unapologetic sense of freedom in her music. She is an American musician who blends her core R&B sound with various rhythms and textures of World music. This is mostly manifested with percussion supplying the main groove. On the tune "Everything you got", the groove is held together by a pulsating Reggae-induced Bass line and a djembe-trap set combination. Electric keyboard chords give the music a spacious, mystical vibe as well a contemporary sound.

Sensual would be a word to describe Kwanza's overall mood. Her rich voice tends to stay in the lower registers giving a sense of ease to what she is singing about. But she is more than capable of scaling the high notes, which is generally saved for the multiple background vocals. The CD contains pictures and notes that tell of Kwanza's personal quest to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. This accomplishment also serves as metaphor in spirit, which is reflected in the song titles, "To the top", "Paradise" and, fittingly, the Motown classic, "Ain't no mountain high enough".

One usually hears artists blending their "natural" music with Western Pop music, some with genuine interest and influence, others for more market-oriented reasons. Kwanza Jones is blending her "natural" (in the case American R&B/Pop) music with other influences and experiences in a way that comes across as heart-felt as well as comfortable and pleasurable.

Bio

-------------------------------------------
Kwanza Jones is a self-described “Gladiator in a Thong.” She is also a four-time Billboard charting indie artist and Princeton University graduate. With hits on both the “Dance/Electronic Songs” and “Dance/Club Play” Billboard charts, she has firmly established herself as a rising Dance-Pop Queen. The Kwanza Jones album, SUPERCHARGED, has been described as a “feverish mix of high-energy dance music.” This adrenaline pumping collection works equally as well on the dance floor as it does in the gym. Kwanza says, “It’s music for superheroes and divas — or those who want to be.”

More than a singer and songwriter, Kwanza Jones is an outspoken advocate of equality and empowerment causes. Her song “#StopHate” has been called “a powerful anti-discrimination anthem.” It serves as a compelling call-to-action to promote human rights and acceptance for all. Her inspiring text, “The SUPERCHARGED Statement,” is not only a letter to her fans but also the ultimate guide to motivating yourself. Through her music and message, Kwanza Jones has one aim: to get you SUPERCHARGED. Given key national performances of her dynamic live show (including Out on the Mountain, Jeffrey Sanker’s White Party, The Trevor Project’s Eyes Wide Open Gala, the Las Vegas based MGM Grand Hotel & Casino) and premier placements of her music and eye-catching music videos (including Live! with Kelly and Michael, MTV Latin America, MTV Canada, New Now Next on Logo TV, Yahoo Music), she is well on her way.
