Fresh Artist | Hear kitty kitty

Pfresh: How was Hear kitty kitty created?
Hear kitty kitty: Kitty: I formed HKK because music seemed to be my calling. It was something I was good at and gave me a reason to get up every day. I decided to make my life count for something following the deaths of my mother to cancer and my boyfriend to rockstar hard living. I decided I wanted to teach and educate about life, going green, saving the environment. I created "one band army" as my answer to that. The name "hear kitty kitty" is about the plight of the alley cat. It's not that I like cats, I am the cat. I see it like. "hear kitty kitty". You call to the cat whose a bit far away In the distance But if & when that cat feels like coming U will c- That's no ordinary cat, Been left out in the alley, Maybe too long, is it stray or is it ferrel? Got sharp claws, sharp fangs, sharper wit, Lookin thru the window while you eat, Your fancy feast, Ain't no lap cat or fluffy Persian, Tho it once kinda sorta wished it was - A cat of hard Knox, A cat of perseverance, A cat who learned to use what it's got, Hear Kitty Kitty Is about the plight, Of the alley cat, It's tough on the streets, My mom doesn't put food on my table anymore. If I'm eatin. I got it myself.

Pfresh: Who are your influences?
Hear kitty kitty: Jonny Kat: Earth Wind & Fire to ACDC to UKJ to Prince to Rhianna to Eminen to the next big thing. I'm inspired by my bandmates everyday and our next Show is always our best, in my opinion. Kitty: I am inspired by Hole, The Distillers, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar & everything ever put out by Hellcat Records. Hellcat samplers inspired me to pick up a guitar and the first song I ever taught myself to play was Bruk Out by Buccaneer. Tiffy: My Grandpa has been one of my musical influences throughout my life. When I was a kid, I watched how he played piano and he inspired me to play. I have a very deep passion for all that is musical and I try to inspire others how my grandpa inspired me. Jeloh: All things Metal.

Pfresh: What's your favorite part of being involved in music?
Hear kitty kitty: Jonny Kat: Proud of making a living playing music even if that means eating a can of tuna out of the trash in the alley to do it. At least I'm living life on my terms. Kitty: There have been days that we almost but not quite literally ate cans of tuna out of the trash for our art. There have been days that have been hard. There has been times when I might question everyone and everything and ponder the meaning of life but the only thing u can't question is your own passion. Jonny Kat and I have always believed in our music and our message of One Band Army. This is (for those new to HKK:) a HKK show where we all pick a charity and then we do a show to raise money and awareness for it. A few examples of charities we have done shows for are: The LA Mission to Feed the Homeless and the American Red Cross. We have done 5 and aim to do one every couple of months.. We are One and we are 4~ But together We are an Army! A One Band Army asking the question: Do u care enough to make a difference in the world starting with yourself? and that's a personal question that only u can answer. But I do. If the world were to end in 2012 & I could say I made people happy with my music~ & the ocean comes over the PCH~ and there is a giant tsunami and Randy's donut goes rolling along La Cienega~ like the song by Youth Brigade, I will sink with California. And be proud I lived my life on my terms and did my best at trying to make the world a better place. And all the while the answer is also that the best part of being involved in music is the sickening rush. The roller coaster of life part that its up n its down n u just don't know but u keep working hard cus u know u really believe and the next minute u r on tour and playing to a few thousand people and if u r us.. maybe the next day just 100. but if u r my lead guitarist right now, u will have found that all you - Project Fresh Magazine

"check out this Punk Globe Interview ! Ginger Coyote interviews the fabulous felines of Hear kitty kitty"

Punk Globe: Thanks so much for the interview.
Punk Globe: How long have you had the band together. Did the band originate in Los Angeles?
Hear Kitty Kitty: We have had this version of the band together for about 3 weeks;)
For real. It has been Jonny & myself on ever changing "quests of guests" to find "the right ones."

The girls jumped right in and learned the songs, really good and really quick! And started helping with all the "work" which no one else had really helped us with in a while... And our first show 7/17 at Cheetah's was one of the best, "first shows with a new line up" I have ever had. (and I have had a lot of first shows with a new line up;)

We have Mr T's Thurs 7/21 then we leave on our "No Coast" tour to the Midwest on Sunday. In the mean time, We have been offered a deal memo for a reality series starring us presently being shopped to networks.. So that will be in the beginning stages of perculation while we are gone. Kind of exciting for a new band with fresh energy.

These 2 girls seem down and stoked and want the same things Jonny & me do. Our last drummer ruled but lived an hour and a half away and just couldn't make regular practice. Our last bassist was in 2 projects and just couldn't do 2 anymore and we needed more not less. Cause we r super serious about what we r doing; Making music, Making friends and making a difference in our world.

Yes. the band originated in Los Angeles. Its been me & Jonny struggling over our art for a few years now.

The Boulevard of Broken Dreams we call home, LA
Hear Kitty Kitty: Jonny Kat and I currently live in Koreatown. He's always at our studio in NO HO, though. My favorite place I ever lived for a few years was off Manchester near Randy's Donut's in Inglewood. I started really liking Inglewood.

Nicknamed the “City of Champions” because of its prominent sports franchises, the city of Inglewood was home to the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team and the Los Angeles Kings hockey club for 32 years, from 1967 to 1999. - (Inglewood wiki)

I'm a lot like Inglewood. I'm all about coming up. Working hard. Like a squirrel trying to get a nut. The premise of Hear Kitty Kitty is a lot like the City of Champions. Keep working hard till we get there and then never stop!

5,4,3,2,1 Lift off! ;)

I have a connection to the South Bay in general, as I have lived and/or worked in the South Bay for the last 5 years. Really, I live everywhere there is a Bally's. I work hard and I work out and I train like Rocky. Cus, Like the Jeffersons, hear kitty kitty, we movin on up:)
Punk Globe: Who came up with the band name?
Hear Kitty Kitty: I (kitty) came up with the band name. I decided on the name after a poem I wrote called, "I am the Cat"

its not that i like cats.

What brought you to Stench Radio? How did you discover us?

I want to do the radio show with my band, Hear Kitty Kitty. I'd heard of the show and went to go check it out

What do you love the most about Stench Radio?

cool music and cool upcoming bands

How do you personally make an impact on your local punk rock community?

i am the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of hear kitty kitty. we try to b a band that, in addition to great music, we do our own show called, "one band army" about a band that cares enough to make a difference in the world starting with itself. our first 2 shows were for the Eagles Lodge in Redondo Beach. We raised 500$ for them. They are a non profit that works to provide $ for charities such as the Max Baer Heart Foundation and Jimmy Durante Children's Fund.

Our third show was for the LA Mission to feed the homeless. We raised 300$, 8 bags of canned food and 1 bag of clothes

And our fourth show was for the American Red Cross where we raised 300$ total to help the victims of the earthquake and tsunami and were awarded a plaque~ which I'm very proud of.

We are all about having a voice in "hear kitty kitty" and trying to use it to make a difference in our community.

Tell us a little about yourself, what makes YOU Stench Babe material? Spare no juicy details, we want it all!

I sing, I act, I model, I bartend. I'm endorsed by Jackson Guitars and have my own signature guitar pick. I used to be a full time lingerie and bikini model. Currently I spend most of my time working and writing in Hear Kitty Kitty and being a promotional model for Hint Water. I like Stench radio and think it would be cool to b a Stench Babe and get my band, Hear Kitty Kitty, on your show. Check out some of my work at the links below:

"Live Show Review: Legends of Rock - German American Club, Cape Coral, Fl. USA, Saturday, 21st April, 2012"

Legends of Rock - German American Club, Cape Coral, Fl. USA, Saturday, 21st April, 2012

Now here's a show I've looked forward to seeing over in the South West area of Florida as I get to see some 80's icons I've been wating literally years to see but more on that later. The gig is set in a large field at the side of the club - I mean, how could you house 4000 people in there - pretty impossible - so there was a halfway decent turnout for the show.

The hardest part is always being the opener for an event of this nature, with the duty this time going to LA's 3 girls, 1 guy outfit who are a great set of cats up there called 'Hear Kitty Kitty'. They are have a style that cannot be pinned down which is a good thing from where I am standing because it's an impossibilty to get bored with them as they are so adventurous in their musical attributes who lay out a mix of rock and metal with a fresh alternate kinda outlook.

To place them into any perspective they are kinda like the alternative to all the mainstream sh*t that continually pollutes many of the major rock magazines these days - a bit like what Faith No More did in the late 80's and early 90's.They play some cooking songs from their debut album 'Tales From The Alley' and grabbed the audience straight away and their cuty sweetness and tequila slurping from Kitty has them loved by all.

They even finish off their show with that old dancehall classic 'Highway To Hell' and overall go down a f*ck*n' storm before the rain fired up. Highlights of their set included 'Waiting' ; 'Vampires' and a healthy helping of tequila too that Kitty swills down and salutes each and everyone of us with that bottle.

"CD Review: LA Based Rockers that have three girls and one guy that are fresh, zesty and very likeable."

Hear Kitty Kitty - Tales From The Alley
(S/R - 2009)

LA Based Rockers that have three girls and one guy that are fresh, zesty and very likeable.

Highlights include 'Over' with its infectious riff; the slamming almost Bowling For Soup like 'Waiting'; the Ramonesy 'Summer Waves'; the brightly hooked 'Play That Song' and closing more industrial like 'Vampires'. The female vocals of each song are real lively and have plenty of spark to them and you can tell the band really believe in what they do 100%.

Check them out as I dig 'em.

"An Interview with L.A. Rockers Hear Kitty Kitty.."

An Interview with L.A. Rockers

'Hear Kitty Kitty'

that took place in April 2012.

Interviewed By Glenn Milligan

What has it been like for you growing up in Los Angeles and which parts are you all from?

Tiffy TomTom: I was born and raised in Los Angeles all my life. San Fernando Valley to be exact. Growing up in L.A. was alright, it's a busy city. A lot of people and a lot of things to do. I don't mind it for the most part, I want to adventure and experience what is also out there.

Jonny Kat is from Salinas, CA.

Kitty is from the East Coast But the true beginnings of what is presently HKK began when she lived in Inglewood, CA. Kitty is not the Beverly Hills type. She's all About being part of a proud people struggling. Struggling every day to make ends meet, feed their families, live honestly and get by.
Hear Kitty Kitty is about coming up on the streets with no silver spoon in your mouth. Finding your own way. On your own terms. Honestly. While helping all and hurting no one in the process.

Angelica was born in Orlando but was raised in Los Angeles. Pasadena, Hollywood and Venice were her stomping ground as a kid. The music and art community had a huge impact on her life growing up.

Angelica

Were you in bands previously and if so, what were they, where did they play and what was their level of success?

Tiffy TomTom: When I was younger I would just jam with my friends to bands we would listen to and just cover songs. We would perform at school events and school festivals. Other than that we never thought about taking it seriously. So Hear Kitty Kitty is the first "serious" band I've ever been in and we're trying to go places and rock!

Jonny Kat: The first band I was ever in was called Chamelion, cause all 5 of us were different races. And Chamelions change colors like music does. I was 12 years old sitting on stages at bars. In between sets so I wouldn't mingle with the Cougars. Now, ironically, Cougars try to mingle with me. I experienced success later with a bunch of Ugly Kids named Joe and we toured extensively Reaching #4 on the Billboard charts. I think they should all change their name to Jonny:)

Angelica played in a band called Ritual Habits. They played Rocklahoma and South West Texas Rockfest.

Kitty: Any band I ever was in previously was a version of Hear Kitty Kitty that just hadn't reached its potential yet. Everything I ever did, was this.

What is the musical background of all the members of the band?

Jonny Kat : 10 -16 years old trombone in jazz stage band -elementary school. 12- present- guitar & bass- all styles. Attended MI & recording school

Tiffy Tom Tom- I started with piano and eventually took drum lessons and while learning drums picked up bass and guitar.

Angelica was classically trained and picked up rock and metal in high school during her teenage rebellion stage:)

Kitty: I started singing in elementary school when the 5th grade class did a production of "Annie" and I was in third grade and I was the lead, Annie. Everyone said I had a gift. I just knew it was a fun way to express myself. I also took up the drums and the French horn but I sucked at the French horn and really enjoyed making it sound like an elephant. At some point, I realized it was more fun to play my own music than to be in musical theater and I moved to LA cus Philly/NY were cold. I liked the word "California" I liked palm trees. I wanted to be like Courtney love- when I grew up. Music. Movies. Model. Hot rockstar boyfriend. Jonny & I argue who found who when I moved to LA. He taught me how to play guitar. Now I'm endorsed by Jackson Guitars and have my own signature "kitty" pick. Jonny is my best friend and musical ally and I think we have created something very special in HKK.

What are you influences and how are they incorporated into the band unit?

Jonny Kat: Earth Wind & Fire to ACDC to UKJ to Prince to Rhianna to Eminen to the next big thing. I'm insp - Metalliville~The UK's Finest Rock and Metal Webzine!

Bio

Hear Kitty Kitty Bio

For several years, Nikita La Tijera Meow (Kitty)
has been one of LA’s best kept secrets.
Kitty has built a musical pedigree working with a virtual
"who's who" of the rock scene in LA.
Such standouts as Tommy Stinson
(Replacements/Guns N’ Roses), John Dolmayan,
(System of a Down), Gina Schock (Go-Gos),
the legendary Kim Fowley (Runaways),
Cordell Crockett (Ugly Kid Joe), Chris Vrenna (NIN)
and multi-instrumentalist, Jimmy Harry
(Madonna, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Pink)
have been major influences as well as personal friends of Nikita's.

The band self-released their first LP, "Tails from the Alley" in 2009,
featuring guest appearances and/or songwriting contributions from
Tommy Stinson, Chris Vrenna, Gina Schock, Kim Fowley,
Cordell Crockett and John Dolmayan.

In 2010, Hear Kitty Kitty signed an early record deal with
EFM/UNIVERSAL Records. A single and video was released titled "Moody". In support of this release, the band hit the road performing their first national tour. Exciting moments on the tour included appearances with Buckcherry, Drowning Pool and Quiet Riot.
During this tour, Hear Kitty Kitty won over a rabid new national fan base, especially in the midwest.

After returning to LA to record new tracks for their next release,
the band hit the road again in 2011. This tour took them throughout
the Midwest, Southwest and East Coast of the United States.
The band returned home from their "Spring Fling" tour April 9-May 9, 2012 having played 17 shows going through 25 states with highlights such as playing the Sunset Cove Ampitheater in Boca Raton, FL and playing the Legends Of Rock Festival in Cape Coral FL.

Lead guitarist Jonny Kat (Cordell Crockett) then spent 1 month touring Europe with his other band prior to Hear Kitty Kitty, Ugly Kid Joe, in which he plays bass. UKJ played some very exciting festivals in Europe such as Download, Sweden Rock and Gods Of Metal, playing to crowds upwards of 60000 a show and opening for bands such as Guns and Roses and Metallica. UKJ also went to BRAZIL August 9-12,
Then the U.K. and Ireland supporting Alice Cooper 10/22-11/5/12
& back to the UK 11/26-12/2 to play Hard Rock Hell.
UKJ had their first US show in 17 years in Wisconsin on 6/8.

The band returned home on June 4, 2013 from a co-headlining,
just over 1 month US tour, called "Femme Fest."
The tour featured 4 diverse, super talented females,
including fellow ATI artist, The Fabulous Miss Wendy,
who is not only an HKK alumni guitarist as well as, like Kitty,
has written extensively with Kim Fowley.

HKK was also very excited to have played their first ever European Date ~ which was The Download Festival (6/14/13-Jager Acoustic stage)
as well as a headlining club date in Carlisle, UK at Club Rock.
One highlight of the tour, was having son of legendary welsh drummer, Chris Slade, Jack Slade, join HKK in the UK for both shows on drums. One exciting, highly anticipated moment at Download was HKK closing with Highway to Hell at Donnington, walking in the same path as his father, who played with ACDC at Donnington years ago.

The second leg of Femme Fest then went back out in the US 7/8-7/22
in between UKJ's appearances on 7/4 in Michigan and 7/26 in Germany as well as an appearance on the main stage at The Polish Woodstock on 8/1/13, playing to over 500000 people.
Hear Kitty Kitty were out on 3 tours back to back 4/31-7/22.
Cordell did 6 tours between both bands.
A harder working more dynamic duo u will probably not find:)
