Artist Information Biography Donerail, an American thoroughbred, won the biggest long shot victory in the history of the Kentucky Derby, in 1913. The winning tickets cost two dollars and paid out $184.90. Donerail, the Portland band, offers a different kind of payoff. It comes in the form of Velvet Underground-flavored chaos, Westerberg-like fragility and genuinely unambiguous rock ‘n roll. More specifically: "Destiny & Dishonor," Donerail’s new record. Recorded live over three days in an abandoned Masonic Temple, "Destiny & Dishonor" is a raw, sawed-off collection of honest music packed with off-kilter images and rhythms. Like an unapologetic 60s garage band mixing folk/country with indie/punk sans irony; this record brims with jangle, raunch and off-key majesty. More about the band: Donerail started as an excuse for jP (guitar, vocals) and Dan Niska (bass) to get drunk and play Uncle Tupelo covers. Eventually, playing the same four Uncle Tupelo covers of covers got boring enough that they started writing songs. Playing them badly at bars got boring enough that they took a while to woodshed and write more songs. After enduring several lineup changes, Donerail is now jP, Dan, Jake Pettit (guitar, vocals) and Duncan John (drums). They live in Portland, play in progressively better bars and continue to push their uniquely raw and honest form of rock and roll.
