Artist Information Biography Hip Hop, Rock, Pop, Soul whatever you want to call it.....it's cool with Midnite Theory. Midnite Theory formed in late 2006 in Thousand Oaks, CA. With less emphasis on computer created sounds than other groups, they’re a refreshing look at the whole hip-hop genre. With influences ranging from Bob Dylan, soul and jazz, to rock, hardcore, and indie, Midnite Theory manage to pull off what others would consider an elaborate and complex combination, and they pull it off well. The band has played hundreds of shows throughout Southern and Northern California including headlining and direct support slots at The Viper Room, Key Club, Troubadour and Whisky A GoGo. Midnite Theory has also opened up for and shared the stage with national acts such as Shwayze, BadFish, Unwritten Law, The Living Legends, Aceyalone, Dirt Nasty, Hyper Crush and LMFAO. In 2006 the groups MC "Nash The Kid" and friend/producer Jeremy Hanlon looked to put together a live band to showcase their unique style of music. They asked Nash's brother Danny to play guitar and found bassist Matt Lieberman and drummer Kris Carpenter at a party at 4Bros Studios in Westlake, Ca which was owned by Kris and his 3 brothers. After a few months of rehearsals at 4bros and playing a handful of shows singer/songwriter Leilani was added to the group on vocals. The band quickly meshed and a created a sound that drew comparisons to Atmosphere, Gym Class Heroes, Black Eyed Peas and The Dave Matthews Band. In late 2007 the band set out to record the "4Bros EP" and initial tracking was done at 4Bros during two 12 hour days in November 2007. Midnite Theory continued to gig putting together self-funded tours to San Francisco and San Diego and hitting up the local Los Angeles scene at places like Rusty’s Surf Ranch, The Gig, The Aura ,and The Temple Bar. During early 2008 Midnite Theory began opening up their Wednesday night rehearsals at 4Bros to their fans. What began with 20 friends soon turned into 150+ people every Wednesday night in what became known around town as “open Wednesdays at 4bros.” The group also began throwing huge 500+ parties every few months at 4Bros studios with the likes of Underground Hip Hop Legend “Aceyalone” and Living Legends member “Bicasso.” During this time Midnite Theory was discovered by producer and Document Room owner J.T. Meskiel (Puddle of Mudd, Lauryn Hill). Meskiel invited the band out to his recording compound in Malibu and asked to produce the bands next EP. Tracking for "Never Sleep Till Sunrise" took place over a 2 month span in Late summer 2008. By the end of 2008 Midnite Theory had two finished EP's ready for release. They released the self produced "4Bros EP" in Jan '09. and released the EP "Never Sleep Till Sunrise," as a digital only release on Itunes in March of '09. 2009 also saw Midnite Theory be selected as The Whisky A GoGo's band of the month for January as well as being nominated for four 2008/2009 Mavric Independent Music Awards which included a live performance at the awards show. The band was also awarded a spot on the Music Connection Top 100 list of Unsigned Artists for 2009. Midnite Theory is currently in the studio working on their debut full length record titled "This Town" which is due out Summer 2010. Midnite Theory was Nominated for four 2008 Mavric Independent Music awards in the following catagories: Song of the Year: Gone Rap Song of the Year: Gone Pop Song of the Year: Caught Up Demo of the Year: Gone, Caught Up, That's Love, Just Met Never Sleep Till Sunrise - EP review "Overall, this is an incredibly strong EP from these guys. It’s not the kind of EP made of b-sides and rarities, these tracks could easily appear on a full blown album and not seem out of place. The rapping is strong and the lyrics tell both intricate and simple emotional stories that latch on and keep your attention. The backing vocals and soulful singing sound great, and the juxtaposition with this and the rapping makes the songs more interesting. Using great chord progressions and killer guitar hooks to light sections up, “Never Sleep Till Sunrise” is filled with strong songs from start to finish. The amount of noticable influences in a mere 8 tracks is incredible. I think Midnite Theory are going to be one of those bands to watch, whether you’re a hip-hop fan or not. They’re talented enough to distinguish themselves from their rivals, and if they keep writing songs like this (and even better!), they will go a long way." - On The Tune Music Blog (www.onthetune.wordpress.com) "Southern California’s own Midnite Theory are preparing to take their groundbreaking brand of hip-hop, funk-fusion to all new heights! These guys are gonna be the soundtrack to your spring, summer and beyond; just open ya ears as they rip it up! With influences varying from Jack Johnson, to Sublime and of course A Tribe Called Quest (we’re pickin’ up what the boys are puttin’ down with the name reference!) they have truly stumbled upon a trademark sound, and it was hardly an accident! Check out the stellar track, “People,” and bump this one on the diggety daily." - MYXER.COM Instrumentation Nash the Kid (Vocals) Leilani Pruitt (Vocals) Jeremy Hanlon (Keys and Vocals) Danny Shaw (Guitar) Matt Lieberman (Bass/Vocals) Kristafari (Drums, Percussion and Vocals) Discography Never Sleep Till Sunrise EP - Released Digitally March 2009 (Singles Released - Still Green (Piano Song), Just Met (Love Song) The 4Bros EP -Jan 2009 (Singles Released - People ,Come Home) LA Unsigned compliation CD 2009 - Just Met (Love Song) Beet Music (From The Ground Up) UCLA compilation CD 2008- People Links
