About the music:
dRachEmUsiK is being heard in a variety of different venues. From clubs, festivals and after parties to dining establishments and coffee shops .
dRachEmUsiK is the most recent project by international, award wining electronic musician, sound designer and producer Charles Shriner. The current sound of dRachEmUsiK has been described as "glitch-groove ambient beats with a strong modal jazz influence". Simple melodies swirling in mixed tempos and undulating textures. Dense, erotic, evocative, emotional, spontaneous and sometimes very noisy. dRachEmUsiK blends improvisation with structure and is performed in real time using software, Electronic Wind Instrument and various MIDI controllers. The music is fresh, innovative and eclectic while maintaining enough familiar elements to remain accessible without compromising creative integrity.
In performance, the content of each piece of music remains the same but the structure varies each time a piece is played depending on my mood and the environment. This allows me to interact creatively with the audience and have more personal expression.
The content of the musical structures (sound design, melodies, harmonies etc) are created from "scratch". In other words no pre-existing audio or MIDI sounds or loops are used in the creation of the music.
About the musician:
For me this project has brought back the joy of being a musician.
It's like starting over again with all the excitement of experiencing the world and "industry" with optimism. Reveling in the satisfaction of creation and performance and being part of a vibrant community of fearless artists- dancers, poets, visual artists and musicians who are driven by passion.
The music and people in the modern electronic music scene are fresh, challenging and inspiring.
After 30 + years of working as a studio musician, touring side man, sound designer, arranger, producer and composer for major museums, advertising, film and video...deep breath...
it was time to get "back to basics"- creation and performance of my own material without compromise.
