Artist Information Biography 1 song x 365 = Spiral Notebook From September 2nd, 2008 thru September 3rd, 2009, Brian Speaker wrote, recorded and posted a song a day. The goal was to grow as an artist, the outcome is an eclectic array of songwriting and performances spanning many musical genres. Through discipline, collaboration, trial and error, Spiral Notebook was born. The entire catalogue is available as a free download off of two reverbnation players posted on Brian's myspace (www.myspace.com/speakerb) and will be available on one DVD & interactive website, with the release set for spring of 2010. Brian Speaker writes music from all sides of his personality. A balladeer one moment and a humorist the next, he continues to grow as an artist with help from the NYC Antifolk scene. With two previous albums (revolution of one & Off This Planet), several of Brian's songs have been licensed for television and his voice has popped up in movies and video games. He's also a founding member of the spontaneous, improv musical act, Crabs On Banjo with friends Ben Krieger, Brook Pridemore and Ariel Bitran. Crabs On Banjo performs spontaneous songs with tittles suggested by their audience. COB released their first album during the 2008 Fortified Antifolk Festival and their second record, a 40 song triple CD, was released in early 2009. Brian Speaker also produces and records for many NYC indie artist, including; Daniel Bernstein, Debe Dalton, Dan Costello, Brook Pridemore, M Lamar, John Houx and many others. Press: "Song A Day (Brian) Speaker is one of the refreshing artists that give us a reason to go on. Some lyricists can be trite and boring but Speaker is cool and engaging. He doesn’t try to overreach with his wordplay or voice but keeps things close and to the point. In doing so he spares us of ego and pretension. Songs like “Bookshelf” and “Spiral Notebook Heart” are simple, clever and sweet. He’s funny that way." - Carolina Jones, Unsigned Magazine "Speaker can get the most conservative audience member hollering along to a chorus of "wearing that [bird] shit around" in no time. A writer to watch!" - Sidewalkmusic.net "I wisely stuck around for Crabs on Banjo, Ben Krieger and Brian Speaker's weekly foray into improvisational weirdness. It's nights like this that will keep Sidewalk alive and silly for years to come." - Brook Pridemore, Jezebel Music regarding the Speakersonic recording studio: "As for the sonics, all we can say is "Awesome." The entire track was recorded in Brian's 300 square foot apartment in Manhattan's East Village. This is a home recording of the finest order and one that can stand up to many that were done in high-end commercial facilities, particularly as it concerns the drums, acoustic and electric guitars. Outstanding!" - Rick Harper, Recording Magazine Coming soon, Spiral Notebook, 365 songs on one DVD and website, expected release spring 2010.
