Artist Information Biography In One Hundred Words Or Less “ I am a guitarist and songwriter who sings. I have a great love and respect for traditional American music of all genres. My influences range from Sister Rosetta Tharp, Nina Simone, Joan Baez and Janis Joplin to Elmore James, Rev Gary Davis Jr., Woody Guthrie, and Scott Joplin. I’m not interested in copying or imitating what’s already been done but by studying, teaching and playing past styles I’m able to give my audiences a cultural and historical perspective so that they will gain a sense of relevance and reverence for our American musical heritage”. Official Bio Ruth is an award winning guitarist and songwriter. Equally adept at fingerstlye and flatpicking whose songwriting is heavily influenced by blues, jazz, ragtime, country, folk and swing. Ruth draws on American roots music to frame her lyrics and demonstrate her strengths as a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist. She started out playing in blues and rock biker bars as a guitarist and bandleader at the age of 15. Since then she has graduated to being a solo acoustic performer in coffeehouses, pubs, house concerts, clubs and festivals throughout the US, Paris, the UK and New Zealand. Ruth has showcased guitars by some of the world’s best guitar makers at The Chet Atkins Guitar Festival, and The Newport Guitar Festival for Richard Mermer, Linda Manzer, Otto D’Ambrosio and the Martin Guitar Company.
