Artist Information Biography Artist Information Biography alexa wiley signed with Red Newt Records, a division of Frederick Productions in the spring of 2007. Alexa's first album on the Red Newt label, "eating that way," a fourteen track CD, is a powerful, multilayered yet almost understated set of Alexa's gorgeous, impressionistic songs about love and heart and dirt and sunshine, metaphors of the wild and the human heart, grief and the joy behind it. "eating that way," was released internationally by Burnside Distribution, www.burnsidedistribution.com, in January, 2008. alexa wiley can be heard on Portland stations like KPSU, KBOO radio, KMUN (Coast Community Radio), KLCC and on web based radio stations such as whole wheat radio and Skye PDX. Alexa plays in local bars and coffee houses throughout the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, Massachusetts, Washington, California and elsewhere. Clips of her anti-LNG song can also be heard in the credits of Columbia Crossings: Oregon Faces America’s Energy Future a documentary of the long fight in Oregon against proposed liquefied natural gas terminals. The film was chosen for the 2009 Wild and Scenic Environmental Film festival and is produced by Intercultural Images. alexa has played music at the 2009 Fisher Poets Gathering in Astoria, OR, Women’s History Month celebrations, Earth Day Celebrations, the International Folk Alliance in Memphis in 2008 and the North by Northwest Folk Alliance in Vancouver, WA in 2007, the Mississippi Street Fair, Go Girls Fest, Daisychain Fest, Whole Earth Festival, Overlook Music Fest, Joseph, Oregon's "Court House Concert Series," and Volcanic Rock Fest. In 2001-2002 alexa organized music events at PSU, PCC, OSU, the Oregon Women’s Correctional Facility. In the spring of 2008 alexa played in the men’s Eastern Oregon Correctional Facility as a guest in the prison’s developing music program. This fall, 2008, alexa organized music, and performed at, Oregon's metro-region Salmon Festival on the Sandy River. alexa developed and produced "Salmon Nation Artists Project" a two-year long production in partnership with Artistic Director and Co-Producer Sarah Johnson, Ecotrust, and technical support by Jim Brunberg of Mississippi Studios, in January 2008 (www.cdbaby.com/salmonnation). alexa wiley has opened for and played with an outrageous range of fellow musicians, from legendary American folk icon Michael Hurley to brilliant Oregon artists such as Lincoln Crockett, Lex Browning, Paul Evans, Jim Brunberg, Les Vaughn, Ted Matzen, fisher poet David Densmore, and local Portland favorites such as Steve Dearborn, the Outdoorsmen band, and Dale Turnbill. Alexa's style is in the spirit of the folk tradition. Her songs are a mix of poetry, jazz, world beat, country, rock, and folk.
