Artist Information Biography About Robin... What does someone do when they have been writing songs all their life, in fact hundreds of songs, shared their music with only family and friends, had a demanding professional life but not in music, and then one day realize time is passing...In 2007 Robin began to share her music online. She has been a Singer/Songwriter of the heart since she wrote her first song at 9 years old. While her professional life took her elsewhere through the years, her music has always been waiting. Robin decided it was "Now or Never" and bought a home recording studio and taught herself the basics of recording. Then she began arranging all her songs, adding backup, multiple instruments and harmonies, all simply just Robin. With more than 3 decades of songs she has written, she recorded 70+ of her songs in 2007 and 2008, and has hundreds more waiting for her. She also has continued to write new material. It has been long overdue for Robin to deliver her music that has been known and loved through the years to her family and friends. Robin hopes to start appearing all over, sharing her heart, her wonderful sense of humor, and her precious music that has been waiting for her all these years… The most important thing to Robin is, she will never regret in years to come that she didn't share all these songs with you... Robin's Story... My name is Robin Lee Field, and I was born into a family with wonderful music roots in Southern New Hampshire, and blessed with a mother whose beautiful voice still gives me chills to this day. My mom and dad had a Country&Western band when I was young, called the Westernaires... Both my older sister Karen and I, at ages 8 and 6, performed with my parents at various fairs and venues in New England, all decked out in traditional western dress. We were backed up by Gracie, our cool steel guitar honky tonk aunt, and a full band, with this emcee fellow named Ralph, who had a french accent and was quite a character! I had a younger brother Jeff too, but he wasn't ready yet to join the band. In years to come he would become the best rock drummer I have ever heard. We also had a radio program on WOTW that would air at 6 am and we would listen every morning all excited about hearing ourselves on the radio! Those were the good times... It wouldn't be long before I picked up a ukelele, then a guitar and wrote my first song. I was nine years old and felt a burning need to express my innermost feelings in the shape of words and melody... My home life was full of turmoil in those days, and gone were the sweet memories of the Westernaires. My parents had a very painful marriage with all the images one can imagine... no need to say more... and I found I could take my silent feelings of pain, loss, fear, and anger and have them come to life and comfort me in the essence of a song. I continued to write songs and when I was older, I began playing at coffeehouses in New Hampshire and later Massachusetts. My songs were my personal expressions, and my heart at it's deepest level. Words I couldn't come to say, and feelings I couldn't share with others would all be said in my songs. My style as a teenager, was growing into a blend of country and blues, contemporary and folk with influences from the 70's like Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Dylan, Neil Young, James Taylor and Cat Stevens. I also had a great attraction to Elvis songs and the Memphis sound, but I was always the biggest fan of my Mom and still am today. She played professionally, 6 days a week, for years at the Wagon Wheel in Massachusetts, a New England mecca for Country where big names performed there all the time. It is sad to me in some ways that she never wanted to "make it" in the music industry, because her voice is such a gift and the world should hear her. Barbara Mandrell once came to the Wagon Wheel in the 80's, and after hearing my mother sing, she asked her to go on tour with her, but the answer was a firm NO. If you knew Joanne Jones, you would indeed know why. She was never one to compromise herself, but most definately was and is a Star in the purest sense to me... It is so important to acknowledge my mom in my biography, because the gift of music I have been given, came from the woman who gave birth to me. And any person I can touch with the songs I have written, is a testimony to how I have been touched by my mom and her music... Throughout the years I continued writing and creating, never losing my heart connection, and playing out from time to time, here and there. While my professional life took me in other directions, my music was allowed to develop at it's own pace and time, always a precious gem to me. You can hear the country background in alot of my songs, but also the blues, rock and roll, pop, and traces of the acoustic folk I loved during the 70's. My song collection is really the journal of my life, from heartfelt ballads to up tempo country rock, the music flows from an inner place that feels magical to me, like a rain storm that begins to pour, with rays of the sun shining through... and every once in a while... a beautiful rainbow... It is time for me after all these years to finally share my songs with you. The most precious gift I could ever wish for, would be to touch you in some way as I have been in my life... The songs that you will hear were recorded at home by myself. All harmonies and instruments on the recordings are me, except of course for the drums! All songs have been registered and copywritten with the Library of Congress so I can share my music knowing I've protected it. I'm currently recording my song collection and as always, writing new songs. It seems when it rains in my soul, it pours! I so appreciate you listening to my heart... Warmly, Robin Update: November 3, 2009 I've been getting alot of questions lately about my recordings, my musical training and background, the studio, my band... etc, so I thought I would answer those and let you know the who, what, where, and how of what you hear when you listen to one of my songs. My Musical Background I am fortunate indeed to come from very talented parents who gave my sister, my brother and I the gift of music from the moment we arrived on this earth.  My mom remembers my sister and I singing and harmonizing at ages 2 or 3 and my baby brother playing our living room arm chairs with drum sticks while still in diapers!  Karen my older and beautiful sister is an incredible vocalist and musician and her son and my nephew who is just 10 has all the signs of just pure musical brilliance.  My brother Jeff grew into the most gifted hard rock drummer that would just blow you away if you heard him (never mind his stunningly handsome good looks).  My dad has a deep rich voice and again is blessed with striking dark Greek looks like my brother and sister.  An incredibly handsome man and where his 3 children get our dark features from.  My Mom, well is my Shining Star and taught all of us at an early age the music that runs through our souls. She is of Scottish, Welsch and some Cherokee Indian descent with gorgeous green eyes.  My adopted brother Richard who is so very talented as a singer and musician and jams with me and mom looks more like my mother's child then I do, because he has the same coloring and eyes. I recently found out... that many songs my mom sang to us when we were kids, that I remember the melodies and words to, she wrote!  I never knew my mom was a songwriter!  I was stunned... now it all makes perfect sense.  One of my on-going projects is to record my mom singing all of her songs... which are just beautiful and will reduce me to a blubbering sobbing mess... when my mom sings I am overcome with emotion and tears of joy and love. And when I get to see my Dad... soon I hope... the tears will continue to flow. I have no formal or professional training, have never had voice or guitar lessons, can't read or write music and don't know half of the chords I am playing on the guitar. I create my music all by ear and feel, a gift from within that I am finally sharing with all that want to listen and hear... My Studio, My Recordings and My Band In 2007 when I turned 50 (and kind of freaked out) and decided it was really now or really never to share my music, I realized I would have to be the one to record and deliver it. So I went to the local Guitar Center, looked at what they had for recording gear and bought a BOSS BR-1600CD Digital Recording Studio that cost about $1200.00.  I learned the basics of how to record tracks of my voice and guitar and knew next I needed a good recording mic.  I purchased a BlueBird Condenser Mic that I now love and created my very first recording.  I learned about tracks, effects, looping, mixing, mastering, etc little by little.  With each new thing I learned I was just so excited and couldn't wait to learn more.  I then started playing lead guitar along with the rhythm track I had just recorded, then harmonized with myself, and learned about adding drums... and on and on and on.. The music and songs, both old and new and the creativity just started to pour out of me and hasn't stopped. I have found my calling. That's my studio, recordings and band in a nutshell! In May 2010, it will be three years since I started this journey and I have accomplished so very much...  I love the creation process, from the moment I start to write a new song, to the initial voice and guitar tracks I record, to adding background and harmony... I absolutely have found my passion to share with all of you.  I have seen growth in my recordings and voice and my guitar playing, and the arranging of my own music which just thrills me... while I am well aware of my limitations as an untrained musician, singer and recording Engineer, I am overjoyed by what I am producing from my soul as an artist.  The technical lackings I have in all areas do not stop me because I feel my music from a place that is unstoppable and its the emotion that drives the creation all the way to the final mastering and writing to cd. Oh, another thing. I also bought a Roland Guitar Synthesizer for around $500.00 that allows me to add whatever instrument I want to my songs, all by playing notes on my guitar.  You'll sometimes hear horns and saxophones, strings and violins that I can make with this Synthesizer that is basically a guitar pickup on a Gibson Les Paul of mine. In the end the recording is all mine, every note, every arrangement, every word, and I couldn't be more proud of my work, even with it's flaws, every flaw is mine... The draw back to being my own band?  Perhaps, playing out. This is when I really need other band members to back me up and how fun would that be!  That may well be the very next step.  Perhaps just playing out here and there solo too. Nashville was such a blast!  I definately have to do more shows. It has been hard to play out more because I have a full time profession that is not music.  Most of my recording happens on weekends.  I can't say thank you enough to the ones that stop by and listen to my music.  If my music moves you, if you feel my song, if your heart is touched, then you are with me on this journey and I so appreciate you being with me. ps..  Someday I'll share with you what I do for a profession and actually have followed in my Dad's footsteps by no intentional plan of my own.  Just landed there.  Isn't destiny and fate something...amazing... Robin Instrumentation I am the band!!!  I play guitar, acoustic and electric, both rhythm and lead. All arrangements, backup instruments, and vocal harmonies on my song recordings are me except the drums.
