Biography music.for.headphones was started by Jonathan Allen as a recording project in Athens, Georgia in the summer of 2000. Over the last 8 years, many members have come and gone (and come back again) and the band has made a home-base of at least 3 cities. For the most part, the band wasn't much of an organized outfit until Allen moved to Philadelphia and reconnected with his friend Aaron Aleiner (b) in 2006. Allen's brother, Patrick Richardson (d) joined them, and the band started to perform and record more seriously. To this day, there's not much in the way of a permanent lineup as members come and go from time to time creating a fluctuation of style spread amongst the bands recordings. Sound and style has ranged from Rugby space rock to London shoegaze, ("go.see.girls.rock" 2006), from delay-drenched Creation sounds ("Kosmonaut" 2006) to a more aggressive, American-psych inspired sound ("Frequency of Oscillation" 2007). music.for.headphones' most recent EP, "Preface/Alternate", was released January 30th, 2008 and starts bringing all of the it together. The current line up, Jonathan Allen (g/v), Aaron Aleiner (b), Patrick Richardson (d), Greg Kinter (g), Dan Knapp (g), and Phil Watson (k), is the strongest yet. They are practically living in the studio, working on a full length album and are preparing for the release of the debut single "Back Through Hell" in coming weeks. Headphones also continues to reach into the film world with two new soundtracks being awarded to Jonathan and Aaron. 2008 Recap: In January, "Doctor" from "Preface/Alternate" was used as the lead off track on a compilation called "Fresh Cuts Volume One" distributed nationwide at Guitar Center Stores. In February, "Jenny (Yr My Astronaut Angel)" from "Kosmonaut" was used in the indie film"Gospel of Wonderland." The rest of the soundtrack used music written and recorded by our bassist, Aaron Aleiner. In May, Music For Headphones were chosen as Filter Magazine's "Undiscovered Band of the Month," which included coverage on their website, newsletters, myspace, and in the July issue of the magazine. In June, Filter continued their support by choosing to include a Headphones' song on an upcoming compilation distributed at Urban Outfitters. Also in June, Music for Headphones were chosen to play at the Baltimore Music Conference in September.
