Artist Information Biography Just try to peg Joanne Rand's music, it's impossible: radical, classical, earth-based, politico-spiritual, folk-rock "song poetry" of the ages, written for the masses, but really appealing to the individual. Originally from the Deep South, with a background in classical, Appalachian folk, psychedelic rock, Native American (trance inducing) music, Rand has been touring Nationally for over twenty years, drawing from such far-flung adventures as wilderness homesteader, urban dweller, gypsy troubadour. Her music has graced weddings, births, deaths, and stadiums (w/ crowds of 60,000), opening hearts across a wide spectrum of humanity. Rand has just completed her tenth CD, and a BFA in music composition. Her current set includes Avante-garde Appalachian traditionals, original orchestral compositions & southern blues rock, all sung in Rand's own inimitable style. Rands composition background is apparent in the rich crafting of these songs, Her compositions have been compared to Aaron Copland. Her voice was dubbed "hair-raising" by poet Gary Snyder. The title of her latest CD, "Snake Oil and Hummingbirds," derives from the medicinal quality of Rand's muse: some goes down easy (Hummingbirds), some stirs & stimulates (Snake Oil).
