Biography
Influenced by 60's Beat music, American Cowboy, Stax Soul & Show tunes, Phil Smith & The Realistics are the Eclectic Troubadours, smashing down fences & keeping the listener guessing, smooching & dancing. Communicators on high levels, the band preaches Love, compassion, good manners & non PC slogans. Who else would write about George W. Bush thus:" You'll be remembered for being a fool/and kids will curse your name each Monday at school ." (from 'Sitting Pretty' on 'All Things Considered.') Phil Smith is a teller of weird tales & songs that seem to wash over one as Ear Candy, but ultimately compel the listener to 'Think, dammit, think!' No whiny table thumper, Phil lets his astonishing sense of humour loose within all his compositions, thereby allowing him to wriggle off the hook, and giving the listener something to grin about. He is a rock dog, a sentimental acid-crooner, and an unrepentant loudmouth with Jekyll AND Hyde tendencies, who will draw you in for a visit before you realise you're actually applying for residency. Since the release of 'All Things Considered' in Nov. 07 on his own label, Half-Tone Records, Phil has assembled "The Realistics", a stylish band to back him up on his quest for the perfect AOR Rockshow. The band have recently released their first CD as a unit, 'My Little Baby.'
