Biography
Pate de fua was created in Mexico by the well known musicians Yayo Gonzalez and Guillermo Perata. Pate de fua grew out of the motivation and need to make a unique approach that combines different musical influences.
Since the musicians of Pate de Fua play more than one instrument (accordion, bandoneon, cavaquinho, banjo, cornet, alto horn, guitar, contrabass, drums and voice) this leads to an unconventional proposal of extreme versatility
Giving priority to their personal concept of interpretation, making original arrangements and compositions, and keeping a careful selection of the repertoire, Pate de Fua has become one of the most distinguished groups within the Mexican musical scene.
The original compositions are from Guillermo Perata and Yayo Gonzalez. These compositions have a strong influence from old musical styles, which are widely enriched by the talent of the musicians of the band. The repertoire includes jazz, waltzes, mussete, fox-trot, tango, tarantella, paso doble, and distinctive elements of the traditional world music,  explored and composed by these outstanding musicians. With their creativity they offer us a rather unique style that leads to a modern attitude that has not been previously known.
They have great artistic, creative, and interpretative backgrounds. They all come to pate de fua from different musical pathways such as Jazz, Tango and Classical music leading to the merging of their styles and personalities which in itself creates the identity that characterizes the project.
Considering that in today’s musical horizon it is much easier to fall into repetitive formulae that express abstract languages to force avant-garde expressions. Pate de Fua proposes without forcing, invites by the work itself, emphasizing its own musicality and essence. The complexity of such material is not in the language, but in the careful selection through the search and development of musical material. This rescues the basic spirit of the music that was, is and will be born to be listened.

Pate de Fua has performed in great mexican stages and festivals such as Festival del Zocalo, Lunario del Auditorio Nacional, Festival del Desierto, Festival de Puerta de las Americas, Museo de Arte Moderno de Zacatecas, Festival Internacional Alfonso Ortiz Tirado, Feria de San Marcos, Festival Internacional de San luis Potosi among others.

Gabriel Puentes (Drums)

Born in Santiago, Chile. I took lessons from Ricardo Ruiz, the best teacher available locally, before leaving in 1999 to settle in Mexico City. Some other teachers I've had lessons from are Ralph Peterson, Jr., Billy Hart, Antonio Sanchez, Tony Martucci, Ari Hoenig and Ben Perowsky. I was part of the School for Improvisational Music 2002 summer workshop, where I had private lessons from drummers Nasheet Waits and Jim Black, and from bassist Mark Helias, plus group lessons with Ralph Alessi, Peter Epstein, Steve Coleman, Don Byron, Uri Caine, J. Granelly et al. While still in Chile, I also studied AfroCuban hand percussion with Cuban masters David Ortega and Jose Luis "Changuito" Quintana. I've been playing mostly jazz for the last eight years in a wide variety of bands, from duos to big band. I've played and/or recorded with the most accomplished musicians in Mexico (locals and from abroad), including Agustin Bernal, Mark Aanderud, Tyler Mitchell, Diego Maroto, Miguel Villicania, Eugenio Toussaint, Alejandro Campos, Ken Basman, Iraida Noriega, Cristobal Lopez, Aaron Cruz, Rey David Alejandre, Remi Alvarez, among many others. I've also been chosen to join foreign musicians while touring or recording in Mexico; some of them are Eddie Gomez, Donny McCaslin, Ivan Renta, Kiyoshi Kitagawa, Tianna Hall, Roland Guerin, Marian Petrescu, John Leftwich, J.D. Walter, Jay Rodriguez, Nicole Henry, Denisse Perrier, Beat Kaestli, Brent Jensen, Ellen kaye, et al. I've played all over the United States, as well as in Europe, Canada, the Southern Pacific and Latin America, having been featured in some very important Jazz Festivals, concert halls and venues. I was selected as a finalist for the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance Scholarship in 2003, where I was the only Latin American finalist and the only one who didn't have a degree from any music school. I look forward to growing more as a musician, playing with more people from everywhere and hopefully bring something unique and my own to the musical context I'm in.
