Biography Planeside may very well be the most infamous band you've never really heard. While most teenagers were dreaming about being in a band, Craig Sala (drums) and Ken Hirasaki (bass) were living it as members of Joni's Butterfly. They found themselves on tour with John Entwistle of The Who, playing to sold out venues beyond their wildest dreams. Joni's Butterfly succumbed to egos and creative differences, but the road tested rhythm section stuck together, and moved forward. (They Currently have logged in over 1000 shows together!) Starting over as 3-piece with their former roadie Dave Harris (vocals & guitar), their chemistry was instant. Self professed to be fueled by caffeine & cigarettes this is a band dedicated to putting themselves out on a limb. No strangers to hard work and foul play, this trio has been sweating it in the trenches and living on BBQ out of their van for years. Playing dives, theaters and festivals they’ve swapped spit with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Steve Miller Band, Army of Anyone(DeLeo Bros. from Stone Temple Pilots and Richard Patrick of FILTER), Gilby Clarke (Guns n Roses/Supernova), Chevelle, Helmet, Pennywise, The Used, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Brant Bjork & Bros., Pilot to Gunner, D.R.I., Lit, Bayside, Finger 11, Longwave, Pilot to Gunner, Hawthorne Heights, Death From Above 1979, Bad Wizard, Robbers on High St., Burning Brides, SUM 41, the Strokes and many more... The essential formula -- a manic combustion of good old American rock n' roll and an underlying hip hugging groove, played with punk ferocity that will leave the hair standing on the back of your ass! The band's raw sound is turbulent yet sleek, and seems to reflect every aspect of Americana they've collided with amidst their journeys…even if they can't remember them. Planeside hit the ground running and burned through 2000 copies of their first three song demo and went on to release the 7" single, "Split Ring," a self-titled EP, and their 1st full-length album "For Motion Discomfort". In 2006, their sophomore full length disc, MILK, produced by Grammy Award winner John Seymour (Bouncing Souls, Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Grammy for Santana's Supernatural) was released on Exotic Recordings. The surface-level taboo of "Aunt Polly's Dream" definitely turned some heads, as well the video for "2 Messages". It was then, that ESPN featured music from Planeside’s catalog in their video games of Major League Baseball 2K5 ("Most anticipated sports game of 2005") & National Hockey League 2K6 video games. "REDHANDED" (also on MILK) is featured on DOG the Bounty Hunter Episode #128. (First airing on March 11, 2009) & "MY SWEET REVENGE" on Double Episode #136-137 (First airing on June 17, 2009). During this time, the band toured heavily and was named a "Top 10 band to watch" by FLY Magazine in Harrisburg, PA. and voted "BEST HARD ROCK BAND" in 2004, 2005 & 2006 by the Fairfield County Weekly, CT. In March, 2008 - Planeside released ‘Under the Circumstances, It’s Not Such a Bad Idea...”. A fine collection of 6 songs that you’ll be singing along to with all of your little hearts! Produced, recorded and mixed by Jonathan Wyman, the new EP is a showcase for the band’s continuing effort at honing and developing their craft. The songs are tighter and the hooks are stronger than they’ve ever been. There is also a guest appearance by Rustic Overtones/Paranoid Social Club vocalist, Dave Gutter. Songs from the EP will also be appearing on compilations from ALTERCATION Records as well as Snoop Dogg's affiliate FMI RECORDS in early 2009. Keep your eyes, ears and mouth open, as Planeside continues to hit the road through 2009. Notable Past Events: SUMMERFEST - Milwaulkee, WI. w/ Duff of GNR - Jul.
