10+ Gigs Booked through Sonicbids! Artist Information

Biography
Rebecca Pronsky continues to stake her claim as one of New York's finest young singers and songwriters. Rebecca's songs are "literate, passionate, and wry" (Time Out NY) with "brutal, cutting lyricism" (Ithaca Times), and "are lent authority by her big jazz-trained voice" (Village Voice).

With songs that straddle the line between traditional and indie, Rebecca has shared stages with a varied group of artists including Josh Ritter, Erin McKeown, Loudon Wainwright III, Patty Larkin, Peter Case, Carrie Rodriguez, Sarah Bettens of K's Choice, Elvis Perkins, Catie Curtis, Freedy Johnston, The Bowerbirds, and Steve Forbert.

The Philadelphia City Paper named her Nine Mile Records debut 'Departures & Arrivals' a Critics' Pick Top Ten Albums of 2008. saying the album "struck a deep chord... with a little twang and a lot of empathy." The East Bay Express called 'Departures & Arrivals' "her most polished effort yet with a distinct country-pop flavor... with slicker, ballsier vocals and jazzier progressions than your average folksinger."  The track 'Break Even' was featured on XM Radio's "The Loft."

Rebecca's new EP (2009) 'The Best Game in Town' features 5 new tunes with her terrific band, plus harmony vocals by long time friend Lucy Wainwright Roche.  Jezebel Music says the EP "invokes probably the strongest feelings of western nostalgia you could possibly experience in the comfort of your Brooklyn home" and the Ithaca Times calls the record "a lush combination of indie pop, Americana, folk and jazz."  The EP is steadily gaining airplay on Americana/AAA radio including WDVX, WNCW, KPFA and many more.

Rebecca is also the founder and host of the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange, a monthly music series which features local songwriting talent and is sponsored by ASCAP.
