Artist Information Biography Dahlia Wakefield, a dynamic singer/songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada creates heart-felt lyrics, memorable melodies and pours her soul into vocal performances that immediately captivate listeners. Her new album "Down This Road" was produced by Jim Stoeber of Tegancat Music and represents just over a year and a half of dedicated effort. It was written, produced and recorded almost completely online and follows her well-received debut CD, "Close to Home", both released on her independent record label, Squirrelly Girl Music. With a strong, unique voice capable of interesting complexity, Dahlia spans easily from angelic and sensitive, to smooth and sensual, to raunchy and gutsy. Her musical direction explores popular avenues combining contemporary rock, pop, blues and a hint of what might be considered modern country. If one must compare styles, the likes of Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, and even Shania Twain come to mind... and then, of course, there are her influences of Fleetwood Mac, Bonnie Raitt, Amanda Marshall, Jann Arden, ABBA, various 80s bands and so on. Dahlia's rich voice and contemporary-with-roots style allows her music to fit comfortably into almost any play-list or program. A graduate of the highly regarded music program at Grant MacEwan College, Dahlia was the recipient of a scholarship and an award. A performer since age 5 and a songwriter since age 15, Dahlia has placed as a high-ranking finalist in three international songwriting competitions, has landed on five compilation CDs so far, has received full-rotation radio play as well as streaming airplay with several other tunes, including airplay in Europe and Australia. Dahlia, as always, is keeping busy with balancing motherhood with more songwriting, performances and promotions. She is also currently doing a lot of studio work, recording backup vocals for other artists' albums. With 'Close to Home' released in 2003, 'Down This Road' released in 2006 and several accolades at her feet, Dahlia Wakefield is a rising star sure to shine bright and long.
