Biography
Waxing Phil is a Minneapolis based Folk Rock band combining a deep original catalog of recordings and a seasoned live act. The band's performances contain a surprising and ever-changing mix of originals and covers.
They are currently recording their third studio album on Lola Records, The Pursuit of Happiness Vols. I and II (January 2010). Keeping with tradition, the four piece is stepping up its production for the new album adding live horns, strings and other accoutrements.
The band continues to expand their fan base, getting beyond the club gigs, playing at festivals (10,000 Lakes) and headlining "Waxing Philharmonic" at the venerable Lake Harriet Bandshell in Minneapolis this past September.
Waxing Phil draws favorable comparisons to rock luminaries such as the Grateful Dead, Phish, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. While wearing their influences prominently, the band continues to pursue a classic yet contemporary sound that has garnered a multi-generational fan base.
Pulling from a deep catalog of original material beginning with 1999's "Life In the Day of..." (EP), their 2004 debut album "Sensational Bad News", the 2008 album "Unrefined" and new songs from the upcoming double album The Pursuit of Happiness Vol. I and II (01/2010), the band has evolved into a tight knit live attraction, although the songs are instantly recognizable, they are rarely played the same way twice.
Since solidifying the lineup in June 2005, the band has performed at venues and festivals of all shapes and sizes, has recorded hundreds of hours of live performances and rehearsals and has turned into a preeminent jamband... all the while charming the listener with wry and engaging tales of love, loss, longing, politics, sex and hippie nihilism.
