Biography Ted Hu grew up in North Andover, Massachusetts. Born into a traditional Chinese family, he was forced to learn an instrument, as all good Chinese children are. His sentence, the piano. From the age of 5 he began studying classical piano and by the age of 12 had placed 4th in the Massachusetts state competition and by 17 had played a Mozart concerto with the Longy School of Music's orchestra. Today, he is ever grateful that he was never allowed to give it up. Ted began singing in choruses in high school when a teacher walked up to him and said, "Listen, I really need guys to be in this choir. I don't know if you can sing, but maybe just give it a shot?" From there on out, Ted joined several singing groups. At the age of 16, a late bloomer perhaps, he began venturing beyond his classical roots and began composing. Ted's biggest musical inspirations are Chopin, Tori Amos, Charlotte Martin, Kate Bush, and anything electronic with organic instrumentation. In the past three years, Ted has acquired a loyal following online and his live performances have included shows at Club Passim, Phoenix Landing, All Asia Café, and Hennessy’s Hooley House in downtown Boston. His festival performances include benefit concerts for the Nivasa Foundation and Yankee Homecoming. Armed with a piano, he’s out to tour and see the world.
