Biography
Lisa Jane Lipkin's passion for songwriting is fused with an unshakable belief that simply being alive is a sacred act. Sprinkle that over a journey of soul-searching that would make Carl Jung proud and you've got an artist not afraid to sing it straight. Add her irresistible melodies, poetic lyrics & exquisite voice and you've got a singer-songwriter to take to heart.
Citing influences from Mozart to Marley, Lipkin was once called a cross between Joni Mitchell and Diana Ross. Her sophisticated style and accomplished performing have helped her gain opening spots for Williams, Shemekia Copeland, Garnet Rogers, Brad Delp/Beatlejuice, John Pizzarelli and others. As a featured performer, she has appeared at Mamapalooza NYC, The Towne Crier (NY), The Bitter End (NYC), The Stockbridge (NH), The Tupelo Music Hall (NH) and countless concerts and public events.
Lipkin's debut CD "Raise the Honey" was hailed as a "body of truth and emotion" and stands like a permission slip to the whole range of human feelings. "A Prayer for Peace" is her 2nd CD and opens windows to the spiritual realm with original songs, prayers and chants inspired by Jewish mysticism.
Lipkin's songs have received Honorable Mentions in various song-writing contests and have earned places on compilation CD's by Indie Music For Life, Basina Records and others. Her vocal arrangements & compositions have been recorded by artists such as Aksara, Sandi Kimmel, With Spirit Sing!, and Women Spirit Song. Her collaboration with elementary school children won first place in a New York State Contest for Environmental Awareness.
A Jersey-girl living in New York, Lipkin admits to wanting her music to offer something positive and transformational. “ In general, people’s individual struggles are universal, so in writing about my experiences I can perhaps offer a bit of support to someone else. It’s worth a try.”
Lipkin's forthcoming album is due out this September and taps indie producer Billy Masters along with some of NYC's best studio talent. "I'm proud of what we're doing," says Lipkin, "and I'm I looking forward to sharing it."
