Biography With the release of their new CD, "Love and then Hope" in March 2009, Straw Dogs add to their string of solid Americana records. The early reviews are stellar, and they keep on coming. Three of the band's songs appeared in films in 2008-09, and Straw Dogs continue to pump out fresh music that remains distinct despite its broad appeal. Straw Dogs continue to draw impressive comparisons: the rock and groove of Counting Crows and Ryan Adams, melody and harmony of CSN and Indigo Girls, and songwriting that demonstrates an allegiance to the craft. Directors, radio DJs, song judges, and listeners agree. Straw Dogs and Darren Smith's amazing solo record both get regular airplay on The Mountain (103.7 FM Seattle) Sunday Brunch. In 2008. two new movies, including the latest from ski-film master Warren Miller, will feature songs by Straw Dogs. A second movie will feature a brand-new song by the band, titled "When Heaven Falls." And Darren's "Ghost" was featured in the major motion picture "Feast of Love," starring Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear. It's also on the soundtrack, alongside "Hallelujah" sung by Jeff Buckley, and songs by The Frames and other nationals. The Dogs also recently won a Finalist slot in the Dave Carter Memorial Song Contest (Sisters Folk Festival). The came along with awards for TWO "Top 20 Finalist" honors in the Unisong International Song Contest, AAA/Americana Category, for their songs "Amelia" and "When She Was Good." In June 2006, "Guess Again" won the ShowStopper Track award on upbeatradio.com. And "Traded Her Love" is now on the World Country Music Radio playlist. Numerous internet radio stations are also broadcasting the new CD, including Live365, CelticRadio, Buzz Music, GarageRadio, and altcountry.nl, where the "Not Gone" was in the staion's "Top 20" for January 2006. Straw Dogs played the 8th Annual Jeff Buckley Tribute in Chicago and at the MusicFest NW showcase in Portland, Oregon. And the song "Amelia" is on the brand new X-It Rite Records compilation CD.
