Biography
..you don't have to venture beyond the first few bars of the opening track of Whole Grain, the trio's third offering, to realize these guys are steeped in old-time country, vintage acoustic blues, swing, classic rock, rockabilly, Tin Pan Alley and much else. And, man, can they play.
"Tub thumping country when cowboys were cowboys and singers were drunks" are a couple of recent quotes desribing the band and it's latest cd. Recently  featured in Martin Guitars " Sounding Board" ( Jul 2007). Mr.Rick and the Biscuits in a word are unique. Mr. Rick was raised on a diet of old 78's, LP's, and the "Roots" music scene of the Mid West during the 1960's, where he developed his style first hand from the likes of Rev. Gary Davis, Merle Travis, Jim Kweskin jug band, Doc Watson and Dave Van Ronk among others.
After some time on the road Mr. Rick met Luther Wheatstraw in Beebeetown Iowa. A local guitarist, Luther split his time  keeping his Uncle's hogs out of the Government hemp fields, and working as a liscenced BBQ Technician. The two hit the road performing wherever the gigs were. While in Canada, Mr Rick and Luther hooked up with Josephus Burns, a Sunday school teacher, at a trailer park in the Ottawa Valley.
Their musical synergy has re-invented and revitalised the sound of " Roots" Music. Now with their 3rd release "Whole Grain" getting nation wide attention in Canada, they have added A "Canadiana" element to their distinct sound.
