Biography
Robbie and the Robots is currently working on an EP with Producer David Eaton under his "Gimme a Break" program. David also produced Dynamite Hack and Polyphonic Spree under this program.

Fronting the band is singer/songwriter/guitar player/whistler Robbie Doyen. Robbie is a graduate of Texas State University with a double major in English and Psychology, and a black belt in kung fu.

Playing drums on the recording is Timothy Lormor. He is playing on the album despite having been hit in the face by a car while riding his bike two weeks before the session started. Fortunately no permanent damage was done. Those of you familiar with the local San Marcos scene will remember Tim as a former member of the band Zlam Dunk, and know him as the host of a show on Texas State’s 89.9 KTSW called “IN YOUR DREAMS”.

On bass is David Whitbeck. He was kind enough to allow us the use of his house/studio for preproduction of the recording. David’s father, Bill, plays bass for Texas legend ROBERT EARL KEEN. David has even had the pleasure of writing a song with Mr. Keen. David also plays in many bands around San Marcos including Starboat and Tour de Force.

On keys is Jon Dishon. Jon and I are both former members of the band Pavlov’s Dogs (although we were not in the band at the same time). Jon also plays in a band with his wife called HOLLOW, and about once a month he hosts Triple Tronica at the Triple Crown.

Dave Hazlett plays lead guitar on the CD. Dave is a long-time friend of David Eaton’s. He works at a guitar shop in Austin called GUITAR RESURRECTION.

Also playing some guitar parts is Ronnie Williford. Ronnie is a former Disney Animator and long-time musician.

Brady Black plays the fiddle on the EP. Brady tours Texas, the country and the world with The RANDY ROGERS BAND. His band was on the cover of Texas Music Monthly last year, and they have appeared on Late Night with Jay Leno and THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN. Brady Black appears on this recording courtesy of Mercury Records.

Robbie and the Robots has also licensed the songs "Small Town Psycho Crazy Girlfriend Blues" and "Drug Free Sabbath" to appear on the show Hillers, Written and directed by the Emmy winning Mike Stivala, and starring Joel Bryant and featuring Henry Winkler and Tom Arnold.

Robbie and the Robots is also about to shoot a video for the song "I'm the One" from the album Todaysterday with Austin director Randi Nguyen.

"Groups like Robbie and the Robots come around only once in a while: Usually at a time when you find yourself stuffing more and more bar napkins into your ears and thinking, 'they all sound alike.' The Robots are carefully clumsy, tastefully raw and their lyrics are a good reason to remove the napkin plugs, lest the semi-sweet but dark humor, fly right by." --Mark Kneubuhl from San Angelo LIVE!

“Their show is going to be great. It’s totally super-fun music, great melodies and debauched lyrics,” Howard said. “You’ll feel really dirty after listening to the lyrics, but I promise you — it’s worth it.” -Andrew Howard of Rockus Circus

The San Marcos Scene:
“Todaysterday is a great album for those who love genuinely creative and incredibly witty rock and roll music.” -G*

Boca Tinta:
“I fell in love with this band back in the summer. I was already mesmerized with childlike glee and excitement before they even started to play. You see, on stage, they set up a tent and campfire. They hang a giant moon and some stars. Then the lights go dim and then they start to play some of the cleverest, wry, funny shit you've ever heard.” -Amanda

San Marcos Scene:
“A delighful mix of surf-rock, geek-rock, and pretty much every other kind of rock.” -Jennifer Pollack

University Star:
“He bounces around the stage aimlessly like a doped-up Richard Simmons with scraggly, uncombed hair. His songs make sweet pop music magic in a Beach Boys-meets-Weezer-meets-The Go Go’s sort of way.” -Jeff Walker
