His extended travels have given him a wide range of influences and experiences which inform his writing and have bolstered his performance skills. His debut album Of All The Towns To Sleep In is home to an organic set of songs born of singer-songwriter craft and swaddled in an uplifting collection of sounds. Songs from the album received airplay on BBC Radio Scotland and London station Xfm (where Moving Target won the listener vote after featuring on the show X-Posure). The album also led to Kay's first Australian TV appearance in spring 2004, and a support slot for KT Tunstall. Douglas Kay Band, which features bassist Alex Hunter and drummer Hugh Martin, has played a series of notable gigs since then, including support slots for artists such as the chart-topping Amy MacDonald, and the prestigious T Break Showcases. In April 2006 Douglas completed a solo US tour which stimulated interest from producers in that country. August 2008 saw Douglas and the band play a raft of dates as part of the internationally renowned Edinburgh Festival. In October, the song Better was voted top track by a local band in an Edinburgh Evening News poll. The band's new album, Into Your Head, is scheduled for release in November 2009.
