Artist Information Biography "THIS CITY", A 13-TRACK CD IS NOW AVAILABLE. Download at iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon or buy the CD at CDBaby. Review of "This City" by David Ball, SoundProof Magazine, Aug/09: "A BEAUTIFUL AND INTIMATE FOLK-ROOTS GEM" "Simple acoustic guitar-based arrangements succeed in underscoring self-reflective stories about love and life’s many journeys, drawing resolutions along the way. Pippus’s most powerful tool, however, is his earthy voice, tinged with melancholy and aching vulnerability, sounding occasionally like Warren Zevon did on his 2003 swansong. But the album isn’t a downer. "Oh Oh Oh" is a stirring duet about eternal love (with guest vocalist Nat Jay) while the tone of "Her Love’s A Mystery" is lighthearted as Pippus pines for a woman. The anti-urban folk blues title track could even lure a hellhound onto your trail." 4 out of 5 stars. _____________________________________ Review of "This City" by Stuart Derdeyn, Music Columnist for the Province Newspaper, March 10/09: "A fixture at singer/songwriter haunts such as Trees Coffee House, Pippus is a refined tunesmith with serious pop hooks worked into tales of love, longing and the like. From the sexy urgency of "Oh Oh Oh" with the sultry Nat Jay to the lilting "Little Things," this disc is varied and impressive." ________________________________________ Review of "This City" by Shelley Gummeson, Earshot Magazine, April 2/09: Oh, Oh, Oh, is one of the gems. A simple song, it should be heard and savoured. It has great vocal delivery in that John Pippus sounds like he totally enjoys singing it. The addition of Nat Jay's vocal contribution perfectly complements John's smoky, sexy voice. It gets better. Doing It For Us, will resonate inside you, because the lyrics are so believable. You've either thought or heard these lines yourself. A surprise on This City is track ten, Yes We Can (Dream) which is biting and hopeful at the same time. Finally This City sounds like the midnight musings of a man coming to terms with the outcome of his life. It's beautifully raw and makes you feel like you're eavesdropping. Throughout these songs there weaves the smooth and expressive guitar playing of John Pippus. "Bottom line: Would I go and see John Pippus live? Yes, absolutely. Would I throw down money for this album while there? Yes, absolutely. I'd even ask him to sign it for me." _________________________________________ "John has a smoky voice and a style that makes you want to camp out on a barstool and soak it in.
