Heather Lloyd, of ilyAIMY, is back from backing up Dar Williams' Promised Land Tour.
Since 2001, Rob Hinkal (guitar, vocals) and Heather Lloyd (guitar, vocals, djembe) have been fronting the Baltimore-based quartet, ilyAIMY (i love you And I Miss You). Touring nationally as a duo for nearly 6 years, it's agreed: "all they need is two acoustic guitars and a djembe" to sound as full as rock band," but they can also write award-winning folk songs. ilyAIMY was honored at the prestigious Kerrville New Folk, Mountain Stage Newsong, Eddie's Attic Acoustic Shootout, The Cape Fear Folk Festival and the Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival ... all in the same year.
The sound: Percussive acoustic guitar that references folk, rock, Americana and alternative, with lush male-female harmony and tribal percussion. Called "a welcome jolt in ... folk" and "an acoustically roiling, combustible attack on the usual singer/songwriter fare" by reviewers, they have been compared to everything from Buckingham/Nicks to Ani DiFranco to an acoustic Tool to Rusted Root. But Heather's passionate vocals and drumming, and Rob's unique fingerstyle guitar are a combination all their own.
ilyAIMY also includes, when venue size and travel allows, Sharif Kellogg (bass, piano) and Rowan Corbett (bones, djembe, vocals), who is also a member of the neo-Celtic band, Tinsmith.
2008-2009 has been one of ilyAIMY's most exciting years ever. After Heather returned from drumming and singing backing vocals on Dar Williams' Promised Land Tour, ilyAIMY went back into the studio and will release its sixth CD in August 2009.
