Biography ALEX VOEGELE is a precocious singer-songwriter with a voice of gold and songs adorned with simple melodies, lush harmonies, and thoughtful acoustic guitar textures finger-picked to perfection. Writing and performing music within the singer/songwriter idiom, her music is instantly familiar, completely distinct, and resonates with influences such as Ani DiFranco, Edie Brickell, and Shawn Colvin. At only 18 years, the Virginia native first broke into the D.C. music scene as the bassist for indie-rock outfit, Jurkat. Following the band’s breakup, Voegele stepped out on her own and began writing songs inspired by heartache, birds, and experiences from the road that would make Jack Kerouac proud. As a soloist, Alex Voegele has quickly become known for her quirky humor and charming stage presence, as well as her endearing voice and infectious songs. Her lyrics are insightful, edgy, and poignant, and her arrangements are precise and radio-friendly. With such a magnetic stage presence, it was only a matter of time before she found herself sharing bills with nationally renown performers such as Toby Lightman, Elisa Nicholas, and God-Des & She, and her gig resume includes festivals and concerts on the east coast and in the Midwest. Recently, she was selected to perform at the legendary Bitter End in New York as an up-and-coming singer-songwriter, and she regularly plays regional venues including the Rumba Cafe in Columbus, OH and the Westside Cafe in Frederick, MD. Not surprisingly, Alex Voegele was discovered by grammy award winning producer David Seitz (Natalie Merchant, R.E.M., Jeff Buckley) who is currently overseeing the recording of her next EP due out in July of 2008. With his help, veteran studio musicians Michael Visceglia (Suzanne Vega, Dar Williams), Ethan Eubanks (Joseph Arthur, David Mead), and Andreas Altman (45 high) were recruited to add full band arrangements as well as round out the overall sound. This highly anticipated recording will undoubtedly find its way into the eager hands of radio, fans, and the record industry faster than you can say, "indie folk rock." With her career moving quickly, Alex Voegele will likely find herself at a venue or club near you, and for the latest information on music, gigs, news, and other merchandise, be sure to check out www.myspace.com/alexvoegele.
